Recommendation for cheap printer and ink?

I need to buy a new printer. Silly as it sounds, our printer has always been "my husbands printer", it works perfectly fine for him but never for me (probably a Windows 10 problem). Anyway I have decided to buy my own as I need to print stuff all the time. Can anyone recommend a printer which is fairly reasonable in price…

If the OP is only looking for monochrome, I'd second the suggestion for a laser.

I've just taken delivery of a Brother DCP-1610W.

It's fast, and the photocopying function is very good.

Currently selling for less that £74, with free delivery.

You can get 1,000 page compatibles from Amazon, at 2 for £13-16 (plus £2-99 delivery), making them a shade over £8 each.
