Vauxhall Warantee

Hi all,
Next weekend I'm planning on buying a 6 month old Vauxhall from Yorkshire area from a used car dealer (not a Vauxhall dealership, just a general used car dealer)
I was wondering however, what happens if something goes wrong with the car while it's under its 3 year warantee period? Do I have to take it back to the original Vauxhall dealer that sold the car when it was new or can I take it to my local dealer? I live down on the south east coast, so wouldn't be practical to take it back to the original dealer.
About 7 years ago with my fiesta, I had a problem with the alloys while it was under warantee and my local Ford dealer wasn't interested as they didn't sell that car. I've always been under the impression that if you're a main dealer and a representative of that company that it is their responsibility to fix any issues under warantee. Obviously when it's out of warantee then you have to pay.
Any ideas?
Many thanks.

Why would a 6 month old car be in a used car dealer and not a main dealership?
I would check and treble check its stilla ctually covered by a warranty. Maybe it fell outside the warranty and the main dealers didnt want to resell it?
Cynical me thinks there is probably a reason why its for sale there and will have no manufacturer warranty.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Well, I say used car dealer... they specialise in Vauxhalls but I'd imagine if they got a part exchange in, they would sell those themselves. I thought every car that was under 3 years old comes with a guarantee? Then when it needs an MOT it's out of the Warantee period. I don't know how they got a 6 month old car in, maybe it's one of those that took out finance and didn't make repayments and it got repossessed. Just clutching at straws there.0

No 6 month old Vauxhall would make me spend nearly 10 hours and over 500 miles to travel to buy it.....unless it was VERY cheap......no car dealer is going to sell a 6 month old Vauxhall cheap - its cheap for a reason so I would buy more local and avoid this one.
Answering your question, the Warranty can be actioned at any Vauxhall dealer, it makes it difficult if its not been serviced properly or if the history is not upto date. However if the fault already existings and its already been to one of the Vauxhall dealers and they refused to repair it for some reason then you will have to reject the car to get your money back.....so factor in the costs to recover the vehicle to the suppling dealer and your time, together with additional stress that this may cause you. I would say £1000-£1500 - so if its at least £1500 cheaper than the same cars down South, then go for it and good luck.0 -
Warranties are often three years - it's just coincidence that the first MOT is also three years. But that doesn't mean that a warranty is still valid. They can be invalidated for a variety of reasons, usually around servicing. If it's not due the first service yet, then you should be OK.freeman3030 wrote: »I thought every car that was under 3 years old comes with a guarantee? First thing to check, though, is who the first owner was. Six months makes it likely to be a hire company...0
