Hello
I'm having a day out in Liverpool soon. I'm travelling there by train. Is it worth my while getting the Plusbus add on to my train ticket (its only £3.10)?

Depends on where you are planning to go, but I would say most things are within walking distance of Lime Street0

What's your plans . If you want to head to Anfield or G~#dis+n the you need a bus . Southport maybe on that ticket too but train is easier . Again bus. If your staying in town all day doing the touristy stuff a train will do you . Liverpool city centre is small compared to others . Probably a big mile from albert dock to paddys wigwam and about the same wide to all the places you want to be seeing in a single day . where are you travelling from . what day and whats your plans etc .
Edit just seen your name Eamon . Its called paddys wigwam because it was built by the irish and looks like a wigwam . could do with a spade myself at the moment . Liverpool you will love . Always a good day/night with lots to do:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
Assuming you are staying in the city centre and not visiting anywhere like Croxteth Hall or the footy grounds then you won't need a Plusbus. Do you have any particular plans while you are there?
EDIT: Oops, x-posted with greenface : )0 -

This is correct. One day is not enough for doing the city centre and travelling afar. If you are planning on travelling some place then the plus bus will save money as the fare for a one way bus journey is about £2. However, if you are not travelling afar then the plus bus is just wasted money. It all depends on what you plan to do.0 -

Ok. Many thanks for the replies.
The plan is this arrive Lime St circa 9.08. Hunt down a good breakfast (will have been up since 6am). I can't be bothered with the footy grounds, little interest and only been to 2 matches in my life and they were miserable affairs. Will be making my way to Albert Dock for the galleries & museums there. If there is time afterwards then a visit to the 2 cathedrals.
All things being equal this should leave sufficient time to partake in beer(s) (being a tourist is thirsty work), get some dinner and make it back to Lime St for the 7ish train home.
Could do with hints for a suitable breakfast eatery within the vacinity of Lime St.

Tabac caf! on Bold street is decent for a brekkie. Theres a spoons right on the platform at Lime street that has a huge feast to start the day .Went recently when going out from lime street. set the day up. You will just get a taste for a place in less than 12 hours . need 48 really to see the changes:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

No need to hunt for a breakfast. As stated above there is a Wetherspoons in Lime St Station itself.0

Update
Went yesterday. Started with breakfast in Wetherspoon @ Lime St. It is what it is. Anyway on to the interesting stuff. Managed to catch the last day of The Jam exhibition in the Cunard building. I really needed more time there, just so much memorabilia and insufficient time to give it justice. Then round the corner to the Museum of Liverpool, stunning building & contents. Next the Tate, my friend doesn't get/understand modern/conceptual art and to be honest I struggle with a lot of it. But Tracy Emin's "The Bed" installation, loved it! Suppose on one level its a memoir of a hedonistic life style but on talking with 2 of the vocal loop guides I think about it now more as representing a descent into depression. I likened it to stories I remember hearing when I was very young of aunts/uncles that had taken to their beds for years/decades. Well thats my interpretation. Finally next door to the Merseyside Maritime Museum, fabulous space and interesting. Their take on the Titanic was fascinating, I've been round the Titanic Museum in Belfast and whilst it concentrates on the building side, the Liverpool side takes us on a journey with many of the people involved with the daily operational side. The top floor exhibition of slavery (old & current) managed to make me angry & sad. This must be a feature of good museums.
Finished of with some beers in the Pumphouse @ Albert Dock, Balticfleet & Kiln Lime. Had dinner at Chy, excellent food best Chinese I've had for years
Will have to go back. 10hrs is just not enough0
