Hi,

So this morning I sat down to check my energy bill and perhaps look at switching. The MSE Energy club says I could save £134 per year by switching to a fixed rate deal with British Gas. I like to check the numbers myself and this is where I ran into a probem.

MSE Energy club
GB Energy Premium Energy Saver (that is correct)
gas unit rate 2.982p per KWh and 9.555p per day
elec unit rate 10.752p perl KWh and 12.989p per day

My last bill (September)
For the period 29 Aug 2016 - 28 Sep 2016gas 2.8400p/kWh and 9.10p/day
elec 10.2400p/kWh and 12.37p/day

Last email saying my pricing was rising from GB Enery
email sent in July and price hike to start 23rd August
gas 2.84p per kWh and 9.10p per day
elec 10.24p per kWh and 12.37p per day
This agrees with my last bill

The GB Enery web site under my account
Electricity (p/kWh) 10.752p (Standard)
standard charge says see my bill
Gas (p/kWh) 2.982p
standard charge says see my bill

This is another increase on my last bill but at least the KWh prices agree with what MSE club is using. However, the standing charges disagree with the MSE club numbers.

So how am I supposed to calculate the right cost when nearly every source of prices differs. Has there been another price hike by GB Energy they have not told me about?

Obviously I could just use the highest numbers but I'm now concerned about the conflicts, especially those between my bill and the GB energy web site and the email I received.

Comments

  • VAT is the difference. VAT on domestic fuel is 5% and the bill adds VAT at the end of the calculations so shows the fuel and standing charges as without VAT.

Thanks, I forgot about the 5% VAT and in deed the numbers add up when it is applied.

Still confusing the GB Energy page under my account adds VAT but does not say so although I understand my bill adding the VAT seperately.
