Looking at a house and it has the old style warm air heating fitted.
Is it easy to remove including all the ducting and gubbins.
Also what sort of price would it be to install and fit a normal boiler and rads to a 3 bed semi ?

it will cost you 2 pounds 5 shillings and sixpence to do the work
get real - how do you expect anyone to provide a quote when we know nothing about the property?
as for removal , you say ducting? Is that surface mounted or is it built into the fabric of the building such that you will be left with cavities in walls etc?0 -
The largest problem might be that there's asbestos in the 'gubbins' etc, which it would be wise to have checked prior to becoming involved with it. Specialist removal can be costly
However, none of us knows, so I've given you another thing to worry about and no answers.
'In My Home' has more engineers and gas fitters on it than this forum.0 -
I would say that unless it's broken and needs replacing, live with it for a year first before you decide to replace, it has many advantages over hot water circulating though radiators. It's fast, doesn't take up wall space, never suffers from leaks, can even cool the house on hot days.0

My Dad had hot air blowers and loved them. The heating is very quick to heat the house but it did cool down more quickly as there were no radiators to hold the residual heat. It was very cheap to run and was serviced annually - on almost every occasion it was serviced - the engineer said something along the lines of "they don't make them like this anymore" There are fewer working parts from what I can gather and basically it will just keep going forever. Unless it needs replacing, I wouldn't be in a rush to rip it out.0

I once lived in a flat with warm air heating and would not choose it again.
I was always dusting and can't think that breathing in all that circulating hot air/dust would have been good for us.
I'd beware about asbestos too. For me it would be a NO-NO.0 -

There should be less dust in a hot air heated house than a water one, as it has filters to remove dust,WHICH you dont have in a house with water radiators ! Did you ever clean the filters?
Asbestos, whilst possible, needs to be checked, it is unlikely to be dangerous but it will probably scare off future buyers. It would be an absolute nightmare to remove.0 -
What's a ball park figure for fitting central heating (boiler ,rads, etc) to a 3 bed semi ?
Just wondering if I can factor in the removal of the warm air heating and fitting a boiler etc into my offer on the house.
It's been on for a few months and then had a price reduction by 5k and then was taken off the market for 3 weeks and came back on at 195k.
The one directly opposite this one was on at offers in excess of 200k and sold within a week ? However it did have an extension on the back and also the loft had been converted into a bedroom.
What would you be offering.0 -
Any reason you're dead set against keeping it?
I'm buying a house with warm air heating and lowered my offer by a few £k because I thought the system looked rather old. This was confirmed by the homebuyers report that recommended budgeting for replacement costs. I don't anticipate replacing it with a wet system assuming it performs well as I like the idea of quick heating and no radiators taking up wall space.
Seems a shame not use it given that these houses were built with warm air heating in mind.0 -

195 is higher or lower than the previous price after the 5k reduction?
the other house is not even similar
what are similar house selling at
post the links
Rather than ripping out and changing a warm air looking at adding super efficient heat pump/exchange system and solar may be a better option.0 -

.
I don't think there were any filters. This was in fairness over 30 years ago and a council flat at that. Maybe warm air heating is better these days.0
