So we are selling our house and currently we are nowhere near exchange etc.
We have had a request from the buyer to see if they can use the garage to start putting their stuff in already ??
The garage is en bloc and no attached to the house in any way.
Also they seem to think they want to exchange in the October holidays which is what , 3 weeks away ?? We haven't even had the contract packs yet ?
Back on topic... Does it seem like a reasonable request to use the garage and what should I tell them ??

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Say no because you want to ensure no complications in the event of unexpected delays.0

Tell them no.
For starters, who would be responsible if they later claimed that things had gone 'missing' or got damaged ?0 -
In short: No, no, no.
Let them wait. If they are bringing stuff that's not in their current house/whatever, then they can use self-storage.
You'd not be insured for their goods. What if they didn't exchange. What if they 'disappeared' and you'd a garage of goods.
What if they weren't going to buy it, but it was an elaborate ruse with false IDs to shift bullion from a robbery they're about to commit and/or a huge drugs gang?0 -
No. They can use the garage when they've paid for, and own the garage. As previous poster said, this is why self-storage is big business.0

It doesn't matter where the garage is they can't use it until they have paid for it with the house.0

Some people allow this after exchange. I'm not saying I would and insurance in the event of loss or damage would concern me. However to do this before exchange is crazy.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Tell them you need the space for your stuff.0

Personally my first thought would have been to wonder if they were after free storage place for their goods - rather than really meaning to buy my house. Hence - I wouldnt have dreamt of letting them have use before Exchange - in order to make very sure and certain they really were going to buy my house and couldnt get free storage out of me for nothing.
After Exchange then they would have insurance cover on your house anyway - so any insurance claim that came up for stolen or apparently stolen goods would presumably be covered by their insurance company anyway and not yours.
So - I might actually agree - after Exchange. It would give them an added incentive not to delay Exchange.0
