Samsung Tablet Losing Wifi Connection

So my mum has a Samsung Galaxy Tab which has worked for nearly two years on her wifi without any problems. Recently though it loses range of the router unless she is sat right next to it.

I assumed the router was the problem until I realised that both my phone and my dads was fine on the wifi. I then assumed it to be a problem with the tablet.

Yet when taking the tablet to my house, it finds and keeps, the wifi, even at a slightly further distance than what would be normal at her house.

So now I'm not sure what the problem is. I couldn't tell you if this has only started happening since an update as she won't even know what an update is. Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Is the router one of those that keeps hopping from channel to channel, to 'always find the best one'

If so, access its settings and make it stick to one channel. Your devices may be losing their grip when it switches channel.

Could be interference from a stronger signal from a newer wifi router broadcasting nearby.

Go to the tablet settings and tell it to forget about the currently used connection, then go to the router's wifi settings and select a fixed channel - one that is not likely to be used by another router. Try one of the first four channels or one of the last two. I think most routers have it set on channel 7 - the last six used here all had that and had to change because of interference, much better after the change.

Also a good idea to rename the wifi to something else instead of what the ISP stuck on it.
