I live in a terraced house, I am guessing the end house used to have a drive at the side with a dropped curb.

A house was then built on that drive extending the terrace.

The dropped curb is now outside the newer house.

Can I park over this dropped curb now as it serves no purpose, or do the rules still apply that you can't park over a dropped curb? If so can no one park there or do the house owners have the right to park over it as it is 'their' dropped curb.

As it is everyone parks on it, no one has complained but I was just curious what the law would be.

Thanks

As a dropped kerb has other uses apart from allowing a vehicle to drive over it such as for making it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to enter or leave the road, you could find that an over zealous traffic warden or enforcement officer may decide to issue a ticket.

So even the house that it 'belongs' to, they aren't suppose to park on it?

I suppose it really belongs to the house next door to it? the one that would have used it for the drive and not the house that is sitting outside off?

Normally the house owners that it is outside park on it, like the rest of us, they park outside their own house if they can.

Didn't think there was any law or rule about parking over a dropped curb apart from blocking access to the highway to vehicles already parked there.

There is legislation that covers this but it doesn't apply everywhere, only in "special enforcement areas".

If the purpose of the dropped kerb is for vehicular access to a driveway or garage, then the owner of that driveway or garage can permit a person to park against the dropped kerb. This does not apply if it is a shared access. The enforcement authority would not generally enforce without a request from the owner of that driveway/garage access.

If the original purpose for the dropped kerb no longer applies, there is no longer a valid reason for the enforcement of that dropped kerb.

    Fair enough.

OK, next question, how do you know if it's a "special enforcement area" (obviously outside Greater London)? Are they clearly signed?
