    Morning all
    Hope everyone is well
I would say it's good to see so many returning to the tread, but is that really a good thing lol does it mean those stashes still aren't under control?
Anyway lovely or 'see' you all again.

Nothing to declare here but the blusher I'm still trying to use up that hit pan ages agar and just has a little left around the edge cracked this morning so think that's a good sign as it's obviously on its last legs. Lost the lid broke off this morning so I would feel guilty about binning rather than refilling when I do get to the end of it now.

Finally a UU from my carry over from the autumn challenge. I have finally UU my sample of Urban Decay Revolution Lip Gloss in Scandal. Finished this, this morning didn't go on well or seem the same colour, but think this is because there wasn't much left to use. Still need to work on UU the rest.

1 - Benefit Fake up Concealer Full sized - Hate this
2 - Benefit Watts Up Highlighter sample 2.5g. - Prefer Powder highlighter
UU -3 - Urban Decay Scandal Lip Gloss mini 1.7ml.
6- Urban Decay Eye Shadows, 505/50 from Naked on the run palette just remaining round the edges and in the corners
7 - Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado, Olive & Basil Body Lotion 250ml. Almost there

Opened another Lancôme Sample today this was the visonaire moisturiser, won't be using this again, had a very strong perfume smell and made my skin itch slightly. I will give away this opened tube and the other unopened tube I have in my stash and try something else tomorrow.
  • Houseplant26, Hermia - may I chip in with my two cents? :o

Houseplant, like you, my hair has damage/breakage from where I did a botch diy bleach job last March as I wanted a bright purple fringe! The only different between your and my hair is that mine is very frizzy and poofy rather than "flat and greasy" as you put it! :rotfl: Mine does get greasy very quickly tho.

Sometimes I will pull my hair tie out at the end of the day and there is a clump of hair wrapped around the hair tie! Even when I wake up in the morning there are strands of hair on my pillow.

Also like you, I was severely bullied at school, mostly about my appearance. I had the dreaded tiny bugs in your hair problem, my peers picked up on it and as a result I was bullied for it. I also was larger than most of the girls not just in my year but the whole school. I only remember there being one other girl who was larger than me. Ironically, me and her were good friends :o

I am and always have been very lax in the hygiene/basics department. I'm a lot better now than I use to be. I won't scare anyone here with details :rotfl: but it was bad when I was younger. I don't know when the "turning point" was for me, I just know now that if something is stinky or dirty, it needs to be cleaned straight away, and it gets cleaned there and then. I'm still guilty of only brushing my teeth in the mornings but I think a lot of people can put their hands up for that one :o

Hermia re: decluttering experts - like the ones on the programme "Hoarders"? Yup, I know the ones you mean!

Like you, I also wander down the aisles of the products I want to buy for the life I want not the life I actually have. As I said further up in my post re: hygiene/basics I'm lucky if I manage to do something to my hair today before I go to work later, but knowing me it'll stay as it is right now(high ponytail) for the rest of the day and I will wile away the hours on here and not get ready for work until the last minute.

I also have a complete makeup collection that is still sealed that I must have bought at least 2 years ago, but still it sits in the snazzy makeup bag I bought for it all, gathering dust :(

Sorry about this post being so long, it's just those 2 posts spoke to me and I felt compelled to put my views across. Hope you don't mind! :o
  • Not wanting to read and run but I too have left getting ready to the last second so don't have time to reply more properly (I overslept this time rather than sat in bed, in my defence I am awful in the mornings and very groggy/anxious first thing probably due to medication at least in part).

So much of what everyone is saying rings true and it's so nice to know I'm by the only one!

Gemma - I get the hygiene stuff. I've always been pretty good, my mother used to say things like 'have you remembered deodorant' all the time and her being pretty on the ball probably helped me to be. I totally get the lack of motivation to self care though. I think a routine even if super simple, and a bit flexible, is so important.

I think the concept of holy grail products that you love is so useful and making them into something special you look forward to using each day helps avoid the desire to blow cash on whatever new thing is out.

Those who buy for the life they don't have/wish they had I can soooo relate to this, even if on a smaller scale of not wanting to socialise or go out much at points in my life and then not really needing makeup as such. I also buy when depressed and I think I've been in a bit of a low phase again.
  • It actually feels good to be able to talk about it! :D

When I have tried to talk about it to people in the past, I just get "that's disgusting, you should wash more" yeah thanks I'm cured now I follow the most intricate million step routine and I'm the cleanest person on the planet haha

I was apparently diagnosed as being supposedly on the autistic spectrum when I was a child but my parents both keep saying now how I'm a lot better now I'm grown up and it's as if I've "grown out" of it, even tho I know that doesn't happen!

    As far as I'm concerned, I either have autism, or I don't. And I feel like I don't. :o
  • I have a sample UU - ole Hendrickson vit c serum. Wmb seemed to give skin a nice glow and radiance but pricy and not an essential.

I have some sample ins though (not doing too well at the stash, it's too tempting to try and get freebies it's a bit addictive...) a sachet of khiels shampoo and conditioner been wanting to try as I have quite a sensitive scalp and annoying flat hair that is both greasy and damaged/breaking from old bleach diy jobs. I've also obtained a random hotel freebie bottle of body lotion from OH who goes away sometimes with work.

Ive been thinking a bit lately about this thread, and me and why I spend money on toiletries. I'm aware that my self esteem can be quite low. I'm also aware that if I'm feeling rubbish (I suffer from depression and anxiety which is currently mild and managed) I find skincare in particularly is like a little bit of a weird crux. It reminds me I am capable of taking care of myself and almost gives me a sense that I know what I am doing in this area of my life. Some days I don't want to even do my teeth (but I 9.5:10 do!) but making myself pamper a bit makes me do the basics too. I've also realised I was bullied quite badly at school in a very much unkind comments based way, and I have some memories of people being very unkind about the way I looked.

I'm quite lazy in my appearance these days and I'm rubbish at making myself do my makeup and only do the basics - but I want nice fancy face things regardless of using some of them regularly (I've been better lately and I do use my skincare)!

Has anyone else given much thought to why they overbuy toiletries?

Is this a bit too heavy for this thread? Sorry if it is and do tell me, I won't be offended. I'm
Just wondering if thinking about this may help us?

Great post! I'm fine on the basic stuff, but am dead lazy about using body butters etc - and those are the things I end up with lots of stashed generally. Other than that I have in the past been a sucker for a special offer and that's let me down - there are a few on here still who remember the great Tesco John Frieda glitch, I'm sure! :rotfl: That resulted in me having about 9 bottles of shampoo if I remember rightly! :o

Having been present on here before it's largely cured me of the tendancy to over buy because things are on offer - I now remind myself that the same offer will come along again, and will only buy if I actually need the product.

Frizzy/unmanageable hair tip. My lovely hairdresser friend told me to be cautious about what shampoo I used - she says generally a clearer shampoo is better for your hair than an opaque one - and recommended Tressemme Frequent use which I have now switched to and is excellent. her recommendation on use was to use a 50p-sized blob at the most for the first wash - work that well into the roots only. Rinse, then use a second smaller blob on your mostly clean hair and work this through the lengths also. Essentially a lot of the shampoos "designed" for frizzy hair types give the illusion of helping by coating the hair with stuff - but continued use means these build up and eventually make the problem worse. For conditioner - use half the amount you think you need to start off and ONLY use it on ends and lengths - never anywhere near the roots. The only other specific product she recommended was the Moroccan Oil I mentioned before - it cost me £30 for the bottle I think - I nearly passed out - but it's seriously good. I now use this instead of my old serums etc and my hair is far, far better than it was less than 6 months ago. (She does still tell me off about home-colouring my hair but that's a whole other subject!) :rotfl:

  • Gemma - technically probably everyone is on that spectrum somewhere! I believe that all aspects of personality, mental health etc are a set of spectrums. Also with mental health you can have a diagnosis and be in a good place and not have one and still be in a good place, and the opposite is also true. My moods and well being are a spectrum and I have good days and bad days and on bad days I try to be kind to myself and take things a bit at a time!

Some people find self care a completely second nature and experience little or no lack of motivation around this are, so they may never understand how it feels to struggle a bit or forget things. Obviously we all need to keep ourselves clean and healthy for our sake and the people around us but be kind to yourself it sounds like you're doing well these days with it.

Thanks for the hair tips Essex! I'm currently using a lush shampoo bar and a Treseme conditioner and seems to be both working out ok. I just find I'm someone who needs to wash their hair every two days or it gets greasy.

For me my spending is less about offers and more about aspiration and fancy packaging and scientific claims. Actually i really love the science aspect I think, maybe I need to find another scientific related hobby that's free!

Talking about shopping to cheer myself up I have a confession to make. I saw the OPI breakfast at Tiffany's Mini Mani Month in Sally's last Friday, but managed to talk myself out of buying it over the weekend. Then on Tuesday got really fed up at work so bought it on the way home to cheer myself up. Have been feeling really guilty about my purchase ever since.

Oh bless you, we've all been there!
Not a total disaster. If it's not too rude to ask what was the financial damage? I don't know what this particular item is but it sounds totally adorable. If it's a set and there are colours you like less than others could you pick those out if they'd work well for a friend or family and incorporate into a Christmas gift, reducing what you would have spent here?

I'm having a pretty rubbish week at work two so I can relate! Managing to stay away from shops but that's only because I went to return some clothes at weekend partly because couldn't afford but then spent the money on other bits and feel guilty about this!

It was £60  so £2.40 per polish each 3.75ml. Don't have any of the colours, nd think I will like them all. Just need to not by any nail polish for at least a year now. Going to have to keep away from the shops until things settle down.

    Hope work improves for you.
