disability road tax exemption on a pickup truck

Basically I'm a full time carer for my disabled partner. Currently we have a Peugeot 308 SW estate that i only use to drive her around to the shops or doctors/hospital appointments. I'm having problems though bending down and getting in to the car with my back so we were thinking of getting something higher up like an SUV.

So i've been looking around and buying 4 door pickup truck with a hard top seems like a good idea. As you can get a really high spec 4 door pickup with hardtop cheaper than an equivalent SUV.

So does anyone know if it's possible to get disability road tax exemption on a pickup truck ?

It's going to be used in the same way we use the car. I'm just not sure if i can claim disability road tax exemption on it as it's actually classed as a van.

Thanks in advanced for any replies as they're much appreciated.

    I don't see why not.

When you look at the instructions for applying at a Post Office for the first time, it states that you need to supply an MOT or GVT certificate.

Since a GVT is a Goods Vehicle Test certificate then this will cover vehicles even bigger than a van.

I think that providing you have an entitlement then ANY vehicle (within reason and suitability) can be registered for VED exemption
  • I have a nearly new Isuzu D Max 4 door pick up taxed as disabled.

I took the V5 and my War Pension Certificate to the Post Office who taxed it as disabled.

Possibly because some (not all) disabled people need a bigger vehicle. Electric wheelchairs are not known for fitting in a smart car.
