Laying carpet over laminate?

We're doing up the downstairs of our house and Mrs thescouselander requires the current laminate flooring to be replaced with a carpet. The problem is our house is quite open plan and since we're doing most of the downstairs there's a lot to get rid of.
Is it possible to lay carpet over the laminate? When I say that I mean by using carpet grippers and underlay just as normal.
Some additional info - the house has a concrete base so no under floor access is required. I'm also replacing all the doors so the small addition in floor height is not an issue.
I can't really think of any disadvantages - am I missing something?

If the laminate is in decent one in good condition there is probably a market for it
Might find someone willing to lift and remove if you give it away0 -
Removing it could be painful. It goes under the skirtng board which I might have to take off (on one side at least). Also the whole of the downstairs bar the kitchen would need to be done at the same time. It's hassle I could do without.0
