No not a bad guy. No reason not to try but just trying to point out some of the info from you post is not totally right and poss drawbacks in trying for pay back.
Good luck if you get anything though :0)

Exactly my thoughts. When I used to do package holidays, the reps would sometimes come round and demand to know why we hadn't gone to any of the meetings or booked any trips. They didn't like to be told that we were perfectly capable of arranging our own activities.

    Mine too

Probably 20 years since I have been on a package but like you, never went to the meetings/sales events.

As has also been said I doubt the OP couldn't find the return pick up time on a notice board

By all means write to Thomas Cook expressing your concerns and see what their response is. You should definitely ask for the money you spent on phone calls.

People here aren't being negative and you're not the bad guy. People are just trying to manage your expectations as to what you might get. I haven't looked but I bet Thomas Cook cover themselves somewhere in the T&Cs.

Things like compensation tend to be due when there is a loss. Your loss was not having a resort rep and you need to try and put a figure on that. And that's a hard thing to do.

You say you like a welcome meeting to get advice on tours and such. Then state that your hotel managed to arrange these and they were better than Thomas Cooks. I'd bet the hotel could provide decent advice on other places to visit too.

Also, and don't take this the wrong way, I'm amazed you wouldn't think to ask at the hotel reception about transfer times?

So the hotel reception were happy enough to sell you tours but not supply you with details of your return transfer or to call the local TC office to get the info for you ? (Or did you not think to ask them ?)

It would appear the welcome meeting was available more locally had you bothered to read the information you were given at the airport. In what way is it TC's fault you took so long to bother ? There could have been info very relevant to checking in to your hotel in it too so it seems an odd thing to not bother with on the transfer or upon arrival at the hotel. You are coming across as a bit needy , yet were happy to book independent trips (by far the more savvy thing to do) so it's all a bit pushing believability that you could communicate just fine with reception to book tours but not to enquire about the return transfer. Either you or the hotel made a massive fail there .

I don't think you'd get anything in compensation, but I'm sure that won't deter you from trying.

TC are not very good advertising the return pick up times unless you turn up at the first welcome meeting (we never go LOL)
In Dominican last year hotel had no details what so ever and there was no notice board but due to flight time and the fact you had to be out of room for 12.00 noon there was no problem, just lots of people in lobby.

Mexico this June - notice board was down some steps behind a vending machine where the rep had a small office - there was nothing else down there so no reason for anyone to go down the steps.

Just got back from Davenport FL with them and no mention of a rep at all anywhere, there was a flashing light on the phone but when you went to pick up the message you needed a pass code which should have been on the phone but wasn't but as we had a car we were not interested anyway.

I am with most on here and there is no way we are wasting half a day sat listening to a rep try to part us from our money for trips.

But at the moment they are quite cheap so we will continue using them, and the planes are good for long haul and even the food is eatable which cant be said of a few airlines
