Can i just point out that the 16th September is a Sunday.

I have silver saver accounts with them, the deposits are currently less than £2,000 so I'm staying put as, per Martin's article, they are 100% protected.
If Northern Rock is simply the first of the banks to be affected I really do not see the point in panicking and going elsewhere for the same thing to happen again, unless I had so much on deposit it wasn't covered by the guarantee.
<sigh> I wish!!!My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

New to site so firstly hello to one and all.
I remember years ago when N&P were taken over by Abbey, account holders were given payouts if they agreed to the take over. Would such a situation arise if Northern Rock were taken over, or would this not be necessary as they are on the stock market? (Just a thought, every cloud and all that...)0 -
Hello
I'm new to postings..........am having a deliberation about whether to buy Northern Rock shares, good idea or crazy? All thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks0 -

That would not happen, its only when an orgnisation demutualises that that is the case (when account holders effectively own the organisation and so get a payment for selling it to someone else. In this case the shareholders own it and so they get a payment for selling to someone else)0 -
Hi folks,
This is not an investment site and not regulated for discussion of specific investments. I would prefer it if we didnt discuss Share buying here.

i have northern rock shares which i invested on behalf of my daughter (all the money she received as christening gifts!)
Obviously i keep following all the news articles but no-one is really telling shareholders what to do??? this is my first and probably last time i buy shares - what will happen if they get takeover? or worse, go bust? PLEASE ADVISE/REASSURE!
thanks0 -
I think that its a pretty good article, although I have one suggestion - is it worth mentioning the loss involved in withdrawing ISAs (and TOISAs) cash - quite a few people appear to be doing this, obviously losing an allowance which they won't be able to restore. Obviously the disadvantage of this is adding to the length, but I think it is an important point for people to remember.0
