car damage - to claim or not?

I've recently scraped my relatively new car against a post. I've had repair quotes coming in at about £1200. (I told the bodyshop I'd pay privately). My policy is roughly £300 a year with an excess of £200. Is it worth claiming from my insurance? I appreciate my premiums will go up but will they keep going up every year for next 3-5 years and by how much (as a percentage)? If I decide on a less costly temporary repair for now, would I be putting myself in a difficult situation should I have an accident in the future and an assessor comes round to inspect my car?

You can get a good idea of the effect on your premium by doing dummy quotes online.

Age the date of the claim and amend your ncd over a few quotes to see how long it takes to drop off the calculations
