Greenhouse Help PLEASE
Hello peeps, me and my good wife have managed to bag a free greenhouse its a decent size 8x6, although my wifes a keen gardener she knows little about greenhouses and i know nothing, im now into growing because i had a little bit of success with a tomato plant. Im just wandering what seeds we would be able to plant now to get it up and running bearing in mind the winters coming, many thanx in advance

I drilled holes round some storage bins, about 1" up the side so there is a reservoir of water at the bottom. Only fill half way, so the sides provide a bit of extra shelter. When it turns really cold you can drape horticultural fleece over them. My greenhouse is unheated. I grow mixed salad leaves and oriental leaves all year round in these. The orientals are more frost hardy, and make a nice peppery flavoured salad, or are good in stirfries. I also have a raised bed in there, which I have used for tomatoes and peppers. When they finish I scatter carrot seeds and usually have an early spring crop. Spring onions and radishes also grow well into the winter.0

Like Dragonz, my greenhouse is unheated but once the tomato plants have finished which will be about another fortnight I shall plant spring cabbage. It's too late to sow them now, Dickie, but you might be able to get some plants from a garden centre or nursery. In the spaces between the cabbage plants I sow a catch crop of spinach, lettuce and rocket. By the time the cabbages need the extra space we've eaten the salads so it works out nicely. The cabbages are finished by late May ready for the salads to go in again.
EDIT: Should have added this is all grown in a border, not pots, in the greenhouse.0 -
I was wondering whether to post and ask about growing stuff in an unheated greenhouse. I've got some large square bins, filled with soil and compost and planted spring cabbage, salad leaves, lettuce, carrots, spring onions and raddish. I think the raddish went in a bit early because it was warm (too warm probably) after. Working on the theory that all I had to lose was a few seeds and my time, I've been dying to ask if they might grow.
So thanks very much - found this while browsing and am all perky now because they might grow OK.

Quick update - I have radishes and salad leaves ready. Spring cabbage are growing well and carrots and spring onions coming on well too. Also iceberg type lettuce growing well, and am hoping to have some ready by Christmas.
So it IS worth it.0
