Monitor popping sound

Starting today my PC monitor has started making a popping sound - it seems to be when it wakes up from power-saving mode. The display returns to normal, though I've had to power-on / power-off and wiggle it from side to side a bit first.
The power and video connectors (DVI) are not loose.
Any thoughts? Is this the beginning of the end?
