New bonnet - colour match

Options
I've got a big sharp dent on my car bonnet where some scrote has dropped something heavy on it and it's gone through the paint to bare metal too.

I've seen some second hand bonnets on eBay with the same paint code, would these match the rest of the paint work if I fitted a second hand bonnet myself?

Or would it be best to get a body shop to repair the damaged bonnet so it is blended in with the rest of the car?

Not had any quotes yet but I expect it to be £300+ where as I can get a bonnet off eBay for under £100.

Car is a 2008 reg 207.

Should match ok. I had similar with my Golf and bought from Ebay, seller even fitted it for me! I did want one that I could see fitted on the donor car, found some that were stored in pile in scrappy that didn't give confidence that they'd be dent free on fitting.

It may match, it may not. There can be subtle differences between batches. But on a 2008 car is it really that important. Some cars come out of the factory with different colour panels, look carefully at a Focus Mk1 in Moondust Silver - the doors are most likely a different colour to the rest and the bumpers even more so !

Depends if the car weathered the same as yours. One garaged most of its life maybe a different shade to one sat in the sun all the time.

Replaced a bumper with one from a scrap yard with the same 'code' and it was a perfect match. It was delivered almost 'acme like' ie bubble wrapped and looking totally like a bumper! £48 delivered/bargain!

OP, what colour? Solid or metallic?
  • Not sure on the exact paint code as not checked (possibly KMF) it's blue metallic.

One issue you could face getting a used bonnet is it may not be in perfect condition itself and even if it is there's always a chance that it could've been repaired in the past and therefore not be a great match. Even more of an issue with metallic paint.
  • Yes that is one of the possible problems, plenty on eBay but I just don't know what condition they will arrive in, even the ones that say they are in good condition.

No point in replacing a bonnet with a dent in if the replacement is covered in scratches or bent.
