Anyone use condenser tumble dryer water in their steam iron?

Our new drier says you can use the water it produces to fill a steam iron but says to clean the water first 'if necessary' e.g. using a coffee filter.

Does anyone use the water in this way and does it really need cleaned?

I don't know about the inside of these machines and what the airflow path is. I'm wondering how likely is it that the water would contain dust particles and what would be the effect of not filtering the water?

Ta.

  • Been doing that for 15 years now, only have to clean the iron once a year instead of once a month when using those bottles of crystals to "purify" water before putting it in the iron. We've rigged our machine so the condensed water flows out to the utility sink (an option with our Miele machine, instead of collecting it in the built in water collector), and when necessary wife collects it in rinsed out 4 pint plastic milk bottles, from there it goes straight in the iron!

The water will have containments and fibre from the clothes.

In some areas tap water is fine, hard water can kills steam irons.

we find deionized and filtered tap mix works fine in our Bosch steam generator

    .......
Same iron for 15 years is good going.
