if you got a proper amp and 5.1 speakers you can hide the wires easily. My tv is on the wall opposite my window, Sky cables come in under the window and i've run them along the top of the skirting board in trunking. The cables to the speakers run along the ceiling in trunking too0

Yeah, but I couldn't hide all them speakers!!!!
Especially as from what I can understand about what I've read on here, the big one has to go under or above (but in line with) the TV, am I right???
I hate trunking, but I will chisle a certain amount of wall out & bury wires.
What I'm asking is could I stick them speakers anywhere? Or does the big one need to be under the TV & do the others need to be in "certain" places?0 -
If I just knew the answer to that question, I would know if it were worth me looking for a wireless surround sound system.

If it needs to be under the TV, there is no way I want a big woffer box stuck on my floor underneath the TV.
Thanks

in a 5.1 system you have front left/right - centre - rear left/right the.1 is the subwoofer. to work properly they have to be put in the correct place. the centre has to be as close to the screen as possible which is usually below or above, the centre is not the big woofer, and depending on the speaker system dos'nt have to be very big.
the subwoofer can be placed more or less anywhere.the rears are placed left and right slightly behind of where you sit.
you can get small wireless speakers, these are usually pc speaker systems.but they may work,do some research
are you a bloke or woman?cause blokes don't normally bother about seeing wires and speakers.usually bigger the better.0 -

You guessd right, I'm a woman. Hubby wants to use TV to full potential, I want it all neat & descrete. We have the wires from TV to power & sky box ect burried in the plaster.
Can't have the 5.1 system, its a cream chimney breast (all my walls are cream or white) with just the TV on it & all the wires in plaster. Pale oak floor & skirting & an off white rug. Can you imagine a speaker sat amongst that!0 -
thank god, could'nt take a bloke complaining about wires and speakers,
his only option then is divorce0 -

LOL, its not that bad, at least I gave in & let him buy a 42" TV. He wanted to get a rear projection (p1key TV) one years ago, but I wouldn't have it!
We are going to try the phono leads to the amp, as its no extras. We have the channel of plaster dug out at the mo as we changed TVs & the scarts were in a different spot.
We need to buy a longer HDMI lead, the sky one supplied is quite short, I need to buy a 3 meter one, any ideas?
Thanks0 -
have a look on the cpc site, also ebay have some at decent prices, but don't be tempted to pay a lot for one.i wouldn't pay more than 15 quid.
you would be really unlucky to find one that is not up to the job.
were you brave enough to offer hubby fantastic 50" tv and surround system with 7 speakers plus room shaking sub bass, or marriage?
if you hav'nt i would'nt risk it.0 -

We bought the 42" Pioneer plasma only a couple of months ago, I don't think its time for a trade in just yet.
We will NEVER have all them little speakers unless they can be hidden:D0 -
sod little speakers, you want big ones! mine are wall mounted so you can't really notice them without looking up.... hence the trunking round the ceiling.0
