Scottish Widows Critical Illness Cover

Hi all,

Thinking about taking up a critical illness and life policy with scottish widows. Has anyone had to fight the case for payments are are they quite black and white?

Thanks

There are some statistics in this press release about what percentage of critical illness claims Scottish Widows pay out on. Right at the end there's a little information on the reasons for not paying the claims that weren't paid.

Scot Widows are rarely competitive on price with whole of market pricing and Lloyds/Halifax versions are even higher priced and from memory, the number of conditions they cover, whilst not the worst, is not at the better end.

What is it about SW that has appealed to you?

Since they came back to the open market Scottish Widows have made significant in-roads on the pricing and it's not unusual for them to come top 3 in my comparisons. They've also got a pretty good CI policy when it probably equivalent to say Aviva's policy or Scottish Equitables which only lack some of the more extensive cancer coverage now offered by AIG, Friends Life or Zurich.

Thanks Weighty. I tend to leave the protection to my mortgage advisers. I do so little of it personally nowadays. So, good to hear they improved the cover. Although buying through Lloyds/Halifax is still likely to have a price increase over the whole of market version.

Thanks for the replies folks. The reason I ask is that they were coming in as the cheapest from our IFA and I already have a pension with them.
