    You don't like chicken casserole?

or hot chocolate? - Can I have yours please? :p

Only the name resembles OK stuff... read what's actually in theirs and it's not great.

Casserole has lentils in it (ewwww, that's what strange, long-haired, hippies used to eat when I was growing up) ....

Chocolate has melatonin in it.... no idea what that is, but it sounds like something nasty you'd go to the Dr about and he'd say you're terminal.

And this is really helping OP so much I reckon.

Most people just buy and eat and they are fine.

Those who are evangelical about being anti GM and all the rest of it can do that.

But in all fairness, the majority will buy FOOD and in Op's case, nutritional and easy to prepare food at home.

I don't think OP mentioned any preference for non GM or organic.

    Wow

Has this thread moved on in so many directions or what?

Healthy I think needs a thread to itself

We are not nutritionists nor are we allowed to give medical advice

End of the day the op has implied that they are buying cheap processed foods and want to move along from that

I think that's where most people want to start from

So suggesting a healthier pizza is going to be helpful. Healthier in that you control the salt and toppings ( more veg, less cheese ) without allianting the family. Suggesting just half the pizza, serving with a salad and coleslaw, got to be better still?

Can we not just keep it simple? Showing how to get the basics, the five a day, the protein, the dairy, the carbs into a person without going down the road of vits and minerals.

End of the day, joe blog will get along just fine with a balanced diet

I think that's what the op was asking about

Well maybe a tax on those who THINK organic is good.

I don't think there is any study to definitely say that.

So as you say.... higher priced food (voluntary tax) for no reason!

    But, each to their own.

I can understand why people who have had serious health issues would want to buy produce that hasn't been exposed to pesticides etc. But for the majority of the population who don't routinely eat the rind on their oranges, it's no secret that the three major lifestyle interventions are quitting smoking, consuming less calories and being more physically active. All of which are very MSE :)

    Okay, back on track.

Cheap, healthy meals - I had beans on toast for dinner.

It was wholemeal, but not home made, bread with (some, but not much) salted butter and lidl beans.

I think that's fairly healthy compared to the chips I'd been craving all day.

    Can't get much cheaper.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
