Complete Bathroom Renovation QUOTE

I am going for a complete renovation of my ensuite shower room including new shower cabin, tiles, flooring, tower rail etc.

House is in Greater Manchester area.

Room measures approx 7 ft x 7 ft.

Work includes:

a) Removal:
Remove & disconnect old bathroom suite
Remove all old tiles
Remove carpet (there is carpet extending from the bedroom !!!)
Old radiator
All old units (Wash basin, WC)
Old extractor

b) Installation
Installation of new shower suite (corner quadrant model)
New Tiles on walls & floors throughout including inside shower cabin
Paint Ceiling
New toilet / wash basin / mixer tap
4 new spotlights (to replace existing single light)
New floorboards (if needed)
New Tower Rail
New extractor fan
A mirror with lights

If removing the old tiles leaves rough uneven walls, plaster boards to be put in on which the tiles would be stuck on.

To do all this I have been given a quote of £3000 for labour...a week's work for 2 people.
Does this quote sound realistic?
(I am still working on getting atleast 2 more to compare.)

I am budgeting to do this in £5000. Could I get all the materials needed on £2000?

Also, I have been told that floor tiles are best placed on a surface with concrete layer + wooden floor boards + a cushioning (like an underlay) so it stays for long. Is this correct?

Plus I haven't asked him about any special sealing/impregnator/grouting needed?
Is this a concern or only applies to special tiles?

A year ago I had my bathroom totally refurbished.

I bought the suite, wall and floor tiles, towel radiator, shower and shower screen. These cost around £1500

My fitter supplied plastic cladding effect for ceiling and bath panel. Board sheets for on top of floorboards before tiling. Spotlights and an extractor/light combination unit for above shower. Tanking for around bath and shower and all he needed for plastering 2 and a half walls. My bathroom is a similar size to yours.

Plumber cost £640 and fitter £1600 (this included £110 for a skip).

The work took 5 whole days.

I'm very happy with it one year on.

£5k sounds about right. Lots of horror stories about Victoria Plum here and elsewhere - try a local bathroom independent. They can also give you a recommendation about another local fitter so you can compare quotes.

A lot of the cost will depend on the quality of the tiles. Also, my fitter said the wall definitely didn't need tanking, but he was wrong in hindsight....

We had a bathroom fitted last year.
Greater Manchester.
All old bathroom ripped out and whole new thing put in. No bath, only massive shower corner instead
Labour was £2300, i bought fittings for £995 and tiles for another £350 (some mosaic involved). So that was shower, sink, toilet&heater.
They did not paint, I did that myself (ceiling and 1 untiled floor).
