Canyon bike frame guarantee ..... Or not

Having bought a canyon speedmax TT bike, which has been carefully looked after, used around 10times, and never crashed or dropped, I was disappointed when through the course of a ride I found the frame cracked. Having sent it back to canyon, they have told me they believe the damage was result of an impact, therefore the warranty was void. Categorically this was not true, and they basically have asked for £2500 for a replacement frame. I really need to understand what my options are to contest this as I can't afford / and don't think it fair that they simply say it's a consumer issue and expext me to have to pay out, again,
To have a useable bike. Any advice would be much appreciated

  • you need an independent experts report to take any legal action, how much to get someone to weld the crack?

  • Can i ask, your riding along quite happily enjoying yourself, so what happened on the ride for you discover the frame was cracked? also what part of the frame is cracked is it on a weld/joint?

When did you buy this bike?

Did you buy it directly from Canyon or from a dealer?

Did they inspect the frame? Impact damage will show more that just the crack, there will also be tell tale signs of the impact.

Ah just noticed you sent it back so they have inspected it.
  • It's carbon so no welding, and hence the problem. Canyon have a 6 year frame guarantee but say it's void if there's
Misuse. Have reiterated to me they believe it's impact damage and therefore have no claim, despite me knowing The crack appeared during a race where there was no impact.
  • Only noticed the crack after the race when I went to pack it up. Know it was fine before the start as I'd cleaned it throughly the night before the event and it was in perfect condition. Carbon frame so no welding
  • Bike was bought directly from canyon on the 1st April 2015. Frame comes with a 6 year guarantee for the original owner

You will now need your own independent expert report to refute their findings. Get this done and the cost, if found in your favour, can be claimed back from them.

They don't have to accept the report if they believe otherwise but that what the small claims court is for. Both sides present their evidence and the court makes a decision.

Unfortunately is doesn't take much to crack a carbon frame, just dropping it can do it and the cracks appear.

They should be stronger than that, I have managed to come off my CF road bike twice and the only damage was to me.

The only option the OP has is to get the frame back (I hope it is not been sent back to Germany) and have it inspected by a 3rd party.

I have to ask, why buy such an expensive bike and ride it so little?

Many cyclists have multiple bikes. Keeping the best / lightest for specific races can easily happen.
