Problems closing a French bank account

My father has attempted for over a year to close a bank account in France.
We have copies of emails and letters but nothing. My father did make a trip earlier in the year, but unfortunately to no avail.
We are very concerned now the £ has devalued.
Unfortunately my elderly father is of ill health, with finances being an added burden.
Please can someone provide advise on how to pursue, do they have any financial ombudsman or escalated complaints process.
Will there be anyway to reclaim any charges and / or claim back any devalued sum?
Any advise would be welcome.

Why can't he just empty the account then write to say the account has zero balance, please close?0

What does the account provider say is the problem with his closing the account?0

Forget about emails - French businesses tend to ignore them.
Which bank?0 -
''We are very concerned now the £ has devalued.''
Very true but it means the euros are worth more now than they were a year ago so are you willing to pay back the profits??

There is a large amount from the sale of a property and my father is now back in the UK, so there would be the exchange rate charges to lose out on.0

We can't seem to get any response, other than the person who deals with the account is away on holiday and will action upon their return, but to no avail0

Is the bank aware he has sold property (in France)? There is a requirement to have a bank account while you own property there. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

The bank is Caisse D'epargne.0

I'd just empty it down to the last coin and leave it at that.0

Yes, they were aware of him selling the property, as they were kept in the loop and my father visited the bank numerous times over the course of the sale of the property.0
