Is there a way to configure Thunderbirl to send mail from MSN and Hotmail accounts?

Hi folks,
I used to use WLM to send and receive email but no longer works (I know there is a similar thread on here but doesn't directly apply to me, hence the new thread)
Ok I have office 2013 and use the mail client there to send and receive mail both to MSN and Hotmail accounts, works fine, but not a lot of customisation options on it, as I liked the bold subject line in the old WLM client.
I have tried thunderbird, it can receive mail ok both from MSN and Hotmail, but can't send it. Both the MSN account and Hotmail are IMAP with port 993 selected in server in settings.
Is it possible to set thunderbird up now to send email as above?
Thanks

Sounds like you've not set smtp server properly, Thunderbird should do this automatically for hotmail/outlooklive.

Configuring the outgoing server- At the bottom of the list on the left, select Outgoing Server (SMTP). Configured outgoing servers will be displayed in the right panel. The Hotmail server will probably be called Microsoft Live Hotmail or something similar.
- Select the server and click the Edit button to alter the settings. Configure them as follows:
- Server Name: smtp-mail.outlook.com
- Port: 587
- Connection security: STARTTLS
- Authentication method: Normal password
- User Name: your username (for example j.kowal@outlook.com)

Had no issues setting it up for my mum with an outlook account. With gmail you sometimes have to log into gmail using a browser etc and confirm its you.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thanks for taking the trouble to post the above. Just checked and it is set up exactly as you stated, but when I try to do a test email between the two accounts on Thunderbird, get a message that it failed to login to the server "Login to server smtp-mail.outlook.com failed"
Really strange as it can login ok when Thunderbird starts and receives mail to both accounts.
I know Thunderbird is not the default client for mail, unless its got something to do with that, but I doubt it.
Thanks again.0 - At the bottom of the list on the left, select Outgoing Server (SMTP). Configured outgoing servers will be displayed in the right panel. The Hotmail server will probably be called Microsoft Live Hotmail or something similar.

It receives mail but it wont send it.
Think of your incoming and outgoing mail as two different accounts, one SMTP (for outgoing) and the other (IMAP) for incoming. Thunderbird needs to configure both.
Check your passwords are correct for both, go tools>options>security>saved passwords>showpasswords
See if you have entries for both (you should have) smtp-mail.outlook.com and imap-mail.outlook.com and that they have the same password.
Oh and note the use a master password tick box, tick it and set one otherwise anyone who uses your pc with your login is able to see your passwords.
Also make sure in your account settings that the outlook (hotmail) account is using the correct smtp server to send as default. Go tools>account settings click on your account settings and check that outgoing server for outlook is set to smtp-mail.outlook.com.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
