Newbie Saver

Hi guys,

I've just joined and have been reading with interest some of the previous posts, but..... I have a problem. There are SO MANY posts dealing with all kinds of issues that I went a little dizzy!:p

I have around £4,000 in savings that I need to put somewhere, earning as much interest as is feasible. Please can anybody offer advice on the best savings accounts out there? I currently have an ISA savings account at Nationwide, with £2,500 and the remaining £1,500 is sat in an e-savings account ( gathering dust, I think ).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Max

Martin's articles (start at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/which-saving-account ) are easy to read and should explain things.
  • If it were me I'd put £500 in the ISA (assuming you didn't put £3k in it and then withdraw £500) and put the rest somewhere else.

Where depends on if you need to access it etc.

Icesave are a pretty simple/safe bet to dump £1000 into at 6.2% with no catches.

There are lots of "Regular Saver" accounts, but there's always small print to be aware of. With £1k lump sum it might not be worth the hassle/admin for the small extra amount you'd make IMO.
