We had major issues with a previous installation (only a few replacement windows) which is the main reason why we're so hesitant with this whole house job.
When they took the old windows out they hacked at our hardwood internal sills with a chisel and covered them with trim and silicone sealant. It took us a year to get all the problems fixed. The handles have now broken on all of those windows and one is almost impossible to close.

    It's the 70mm profile.

What I'm really wanting to know is what should be the rough price for the job. I appreciate that there will be variation from company to company and area to area and it's all down to the finer details. A £2.5k difference is a lot though and we want to make sure it's reasonable before we sign on the dotted line. If it's a £10k job and we're getting it for less from a company we trust then the decision is simple, if it's a £8k job then we need to decide if the extra money is worth spending for peace of mind.
could just be down to profit wanted . If they are both getting them from the same place doesn't mean they are paying the same price for them (but probably are within ballpark of each other) a dearer job isn't always the better job . You've had sales reps from both maybe the one you know with the better reputation is more expensive but may price match . If there's still money in it . Its down to your shout .

My brother worked as a rep for thameside windows for a while (gone now) his margin he could come down to was massive because he started where he wanted . Often if the customers had a quote from elsewhere he wouldn't even start to sell them windows he would sell himself , give him his lowest and refuse to budge down anymore . Often worked but he would loose his commission for the sake of someone getting cheaper windows wasn't any good to him . (often told them to call me ) smiley face ..

Are websites that give prices online for supply only or supply and fit (when you put in sizes) likely to be comparable with quotes from local companies? The price I got for supply and fit online came in at £7.2k but that didn't include removal of brickwork to fit the French doors.

I didn't. I've read varying reports about Baskil and I'd liked the spec of the Camden windows and Apeer door (which McMullan O'Donnell don't do).

they would just be a guesstmate and subject to change . supply only would be no good to you unless you were fitting them yourself . If I'm working for any local firms as a subby I quote about 80 per window and throw in plastic and mastic . timber extra .plastering and brickwork extra . rubbish removed by the firm or extra . If it for me double it (ish)

Are you saying that I should take the trade price for supply only and double it to get a realistic estimate for supply and fit?

You won't get change out of £1000 for supply & fit of most composites. Given this, the price quoted at the bottom end doesn't sound that unreasonable.

One of the companies provided a separate quote for the supply and fit of the composite door and uPVC side and top panels ... £2K.
