Thoughts on woodgrain pvcu?

I have brown/oak something woody looking PVC windows with a copper coloured bar running up and across through them.
Wasn't my choice but they do look nicer than standard white pvc.
Something like this but with more bars

I've always wondered what's the point of those sort of bars on windows. Do they have a practical function because it can't be for their looks.0 -
It's the equivalent of adding lead diamonds I expect.
Still nicer than bog standard white though so far, it's been there for years and hasn't lost the sheen unlike the white stuff at another house....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I used to have an old house with lead diamond windows. They looked really nice, well I liked them, but they were murder to clean. It took so much longer than a plain glass window. I have to confess I hate cleaning windows.Sell £1500

We recently had our 1980s wooden window frames replaced with upvc. Most of the neighbours have gone for a rosewood coloured frame to match the originals. Our next door neighbours went for white inside and wood effect outside, which we liked.
We went for anthracite grey outside and white inside. Similar to this:-0 -
For that price surely you could just get real wood? Looks so much better than pvcu and will probably lsst longer too. Plus you can paint it what every colour you wish.0

I'm not convinced that wooden windows represent such a huge visual improvement over pvcu that they are worth the extra maintenance, especially in areas of high exposure.
Some houses really demand traditional materials, but the doors in the example above clearly aren't on one of those.
As for lasting, the old lady who lived in my last house changed the hideous original Crittall metal windows for pvcu in 1984. Last time I looked, they were still there.0
