  • patch cables are just shorter (generally)

if it says cat5 or cat6 and is not a crossover, it will be ok
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • A patch cable or patch cord (sometimes patchcable or patchcord) is an electrical cable, used to connect ("patch-in") one electronic device to another for signal routing. Devices of different types (ie: a switch connected to a computer, or switch to router) are connected with patch cords. Patch cords are usually produced in many different colours so as to be easily distinguishable, and are relatively short, perhaps no longer than two metres.
An RJ45 patch cable is the same as a straight through RJ45 cable.

If your printer is a network printer you will need one of these. If your printer is not a network printer you will need a USB printer cable.

What is the printer model number?
  • A patch cable will be okay. Term patch cable is typically used to refer to shorter cables used in computer rooms to the network connections on the patch panels. A crossover cable is only used to connect two devices together without the use of a hub or ports on a adsl router.

Not everywhere, cheap'n cheerful. No mail order, at least I don't think so.

Some things e.g.aerial sockets, quality can be variable.
    Move along, nothing to see.
