Hi All,

Due to me stupidly thinking I could help someone out (Gave them a copy of my Windows) I have shot myself in the foot and screwed my system and I fear Windows will soon be locking me out.

Despite a promise of a replacement being offered nothing has transpired so asking of anyone can help please.

Hopefully someone on here has migrated over to 8 or 10 and no longer needs their Windows 7?

Are Win7 product keys release when a PC is migrated to Win10? I thought the same key was still in use but with an upgrade marker on MS activation servers?

I'd expect the same - if you've upgraded from Win7 to Win8 or 10, then you've effectively "traded in" your Win7 license and can't pass it on to someone else. If you've upgraded by buying a new Win8/10 license then that doesn't apply, of course.

An easy fix, but I'm in Peru at the mo, posting from my phone.
From your past postings you should already have the discs that you need for a clean install.
If it's not a clean install that you need and it's just a problem with activation, you can reset that in minutes.
So which is it if either?

Yes - if you've upgraded to Windows 10 (free) then your licence is needed.

Hi ND,

I do indeed have the discs reqd for an install.

Since putting W7 on the other PC I have been getting the message telling me my copy is not genuine.
I have finally backed up everything that i want to keep (Hopefully) and am considering a clean install using my old product key (Here's hoping).


Then I also may need a key for Ultimate if my old key is rejected.
