MOT - I've been lurking since the beginning, and don't usually write messages, but am compelled to in your case - like others I was in tears when I read that they'd found against you, I can't imagine how you must be feeling and can only sent hugs to you, IT and the twins.

I hope that your solicitor can find the necessary legal points to appeal and that you are able to take care of yourself whilst the fight continues.

There's so much I would like to say and wish I could do something practical to help you, but I doubt that my contribution would be worth much, just know that you're in mine and hundreds of other people's thoughts and prayers and the offers of help are genuinely and unconditionally given.

    Much love

good morning all, long, long time lurker and yesterday I too waited with baited breath for the decision. I was absouloutly shocked by the decision but having thought about it over night I recalled a friend of mine with 7 children who was made homeless when her first landlord sold the house she lived in- they moved again and sods law same thing happened again- I recall the huge battle she had and medical evidence supplied of medical conditions etc- the battle raged for a long time and in the end it was purely because their were to many of them to go into B&B and that she was willing to accept a house in an area thats like a war zone that she was housed!!! councils are not interested in people only facts & figures.

What I will say is that the mentioning of MSE is a strange path to take maybe they thought with such public coverage, and added media spotlight that had they helped her others would have seen it as a precedent set, therefore many more cases would have used the same trait. not saying their right because they are obviously not, but just an idea.

hugs to you in this difficult time.

...they are refusing her temporary accomodation saying that she made herself homeless, they are not refusing her totally....

Blue monkey, MoT IS on the housing list and has been for some time. Social housing is very scarce in her area, as it is in lots of towns in the UK.

It was NOT a refusal to give temporary accomodation - it was a refusal to givee permanent housing on grounds of her being intentionally homeless. MoT has been in temporary/emergency accomodation since before Christmas - and as it stands she has to leave there on Monday.

If you go right back to the start of the thread, some 2,800+ posts ago, you will see that she went to the Homeless Office because she had no other alternative.

    Floss.

Dear MOT, I am truely sorry that your review didn't have a postive outcome and I'm quite annoyed that DBC have used this support thread as proof of your abilitiy to manage. I remember seeing your first post and in no way was it the start of a 'blog', more a cry for help from someone who didn't know where else to turn.

I don't know what else to say really, I'm so disappointed for you.

What have your solicitors said about the decision?

Gforce - MoT is speaking to her solicitors today - I guess there won't be any more news until after that.

Good morning MOT, I didn't post again last night because I was in despair about the decision yesterday but as already pointed out, today is now and we need a plan of action.

I hope you rested well and managed to sleep sweetie, is there anything practical we can do e.g. searching for private rented accommodation for you. There are so many who just want to do something in order to relieve the burden, let us know if you can.:grouphug: xx

Do "Christians against poverty" have any connections with housing trusts or private landlords in the area. If they are set up to handle peoples rent and utility payments they must have had some connections.

Maybe it would be an idea to contact them and see what they suggest.

Does Dacorum offer bonds for those seeking private housing who haven't got deposits?

    Hi floss,

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I was not sure. I appreciate that the thread is long, I have been reading it - when I was first pointed to it I sat and read through the first 70 pages in one afternoon but it is hard to keep track at times when so much stuff is crammed into one space.

Do you know how many points she has now - this could have changed when she moved into the place she is now and she should have called them to make them aware as they are different departments (here). Sorry, I am just trying to help the best way I can so if this has been covered then I apologise, but I was trying to establish (using my own situation) why she did not get the points, or maybe she was not aware of how to get the points so this could have been why.

I know housing is short but houses become available every day/week so if she had enough points then would have been eligable (my friend works for a HA and she told me that houses come available every day and some sit empty for 3 months to a year as some people can't be bothered to do the paperwork!!). This is why I figured she might not be on the housing register if she had not been offered anything in the last 3 months.

If this is the case and they are refusing to let her have permanant housing then only think I can think of that is that she has been deferred because of the arrears (did her landlord try and get these back?)
http://www.dacorum.gov.uk/pdf/HOUSINGREGISTERPOLICY.pdf and I don;t know what else to suggest, sorry. I know everyone else has already covered everyone but because I have been doing the same thing every day for the last 2 months I thought I would see if I had information that someone might have missed along the way.

All of the policies and points are there (sorry again if already posted) I AM just trying to help, but I cannot understand why they would not give her points for the situation she was in unless they have deferred her (it's in section 2) - because we are in the very same situation as MoT (court application going in on 3rd Feb) then I have been making sure the council gives us all we are entitled to and I know you have to push and push to get what you are entitled to.

IT is right, and it states in the link above that priority is given to prisoners and the like, I said this in my own post that normal UK Taxpayers come the bottom of the list with scroungers getting first priority, someone hits a bump in the road and it's there fault, but if you have never worked, spend time in prison or contribute to 'society' in general then the council stand there offering you the keys of a nice shiny new house.

I don't know what else to suggest then tbh, she needs to check that she has been given the points that she is entitled to and then if she has enough she has to ring in, every day, maybe the council will have details of a B&B that will allow her to stay and also claim HB to pay for it, or another LL that will give a short term let. In theory, the less space she has to live in the more points she will get to get to the top of the list. is there a caravan site nearby that she can enquire as to whether ther eis an empty van she can rent for now.

Ah, this situation stinks, I really don't have anything else I can offer advice wise. I am sorry if I offended anyone by asking the questions or posting the details that I was aware of, it was not my intention, jst trying to cover all angles really. I had not read MoT was on the register for housing, just that she went to the homeless department and going to the homeless deprtment does not get you on the register around here, it gets you into somewhere to live temporarily then you go on the register but if you don't have enough points they will give you x days and tell you to find a place of your own. I guess they are all different. It was my intention to help with the only experiences I have, I admit it is not a lot so apologise if anyone was offended by my posts. I was just trying to help and to epxlain how it stands for me, and this is why I mentioned it.

Sorry. Good luck MoT, I hope you can get something sorted and have a big hug all round. I don't know what else to say (still shaking my head in disbelief)

    blue_monkey,

I think Dacorum have now catagorically said she is not unintentionally homeless and therefore she won't be entitled to any points for being homeless.

The chances of getting a council house from the list of people who are waiting for houses (but not homeless) quickly is very low as anyone classified as homeless will take priority.

I short term let would be good, though I wonder if Dacorum would use the arguement they used at the appeal, that if you are aware the housing is temporary you should sort yourself out.

I would hope that MoT would be able to sort out something from her family for the next couple of days eg the twins could maybe go to their Dad and maybe MoT could got to her Dad?????

If anyone knows of somewhere in Dacorum (I'm in Hertfordshire, and I don't even know where it is!) that may take a tenant who would be supported by CAP, please let MoT know.
