Presumably it was racist or sexist or similar? However I'll use my Hugh Mungus example- what one person finds offensive, another may not.

Without knowing it's impossible to say

Op, can i ask, are you married ? What did your missus say about you standing up for yourself and now being unemployed ?
And what do you think they are going to say to you in the JobCentre if you go to sign-on and tell them you left your last job 'cos they upset you. Or even at your next interview......walking out of a job doesn't look good on your CV.

Fortunately I have enough money to last me three or so years and no mortgage.

My wife is fully supportive and I won't be going up the job centre to explain.

Not perfect I know but heh ho..

When was the comment made and when did you hand in your notice? If the comment was recent and you handed in your notice within the last few days, it is at least worth contacting HR to explain what happened and to try to rescind your notice and put in a grievance.

There are very few companies where it would be considered acceptable for a manager to accuse a member of staff of being a p**dophile in front of others, and I'd like to think that most HRs would take this seriously.

This is a definite grievance case.
