"Mechanical Engineer would traditionally be rated higher than an engineer mainly due to Insurers worrying about a claim under the driving other cars extension whilst driving a vehicle for work."
That would be a vehicle mechanic, not a mechanical engineer.

But if Rooney were to take himself out in a crash where's his claim? The driver is usually not insured for at fault collisions. So by your logic his should be cheaper than yours.

I think he was talking about the Rooney in the passenger seat before exiting through the windscreen. And that guy is far more likely to be in a fellow footballer's passenger seat than in yours or mine.

They are not worried about claims to their own driver as they have no liability to him for his injuries / loss of earnings. They're worried about the footballers passengers in an accident being other professional footballers.

I'm not sure how you draw the conclusion from my explanation rthat Wayne Rooney driving himself makes him a lower risk than me.

Easy really Rooney hits you and you can't work, low pay out. Where as if you hit him big pay out.

If they were worried about your passengers that would be factored into a quote.

They are worried about passengers when it comes to someone such as a professional athlete. They are not worried about passengers in a person with a normal occupation as the chances of you having a high earning professional athelete as a passenger are very remote.

As you know so much about Insurance, it's also due to reinsurance terms.

So I have a mate who was a professional footballer, his policy was loaded due to his passengers, me. Mine wasn't loaded due to not being a professional footballer as my passengers were low risk, him.

    You're talking utter rubbish.

    You do not understand Insurance.

Insurers are not interested in loading Joe Bloggs with a normal job for the very very small chance they may know a professional footballer and have them as a passenger.

They are however interested in loading the premium for a professional footballer because they are very likely to associate with other professional footballers and thus have them as passengers in their car.

It's more to do with something called 'Risk of association'. if said journo was driving Rooney and the journo crashed and it was the fault of the journo, then Rooney could claim loss of earnings and damages from the journo's insurance company. They don't want that bill. Many celeb spouses can't carry their spouse in the car with them for that very reason.

When I got the free drive away insurance from Mercedes, there were exclusions for certain job types, and journalist was one of them. When I phoned up for a full quotation from them, I asked the question and that was what I was told...

Anything mechanical is a bad call, think garage mechanic, considered very high risk as many are young lads who like to Barry up their cheap motors.
