switching elec

Hi I am in the middle of switching supplies form a fix to another fix with another supplier and I think I read somewhere that the old supplier should keep you on the old tariff while you switch. Is that correct? because i dont theik the switch will complete before my old one runs out.

thanks

  • If you switch, for the period the switch takes place, as long as your tariff was not due to end on a specific date, you should be kept on that tariff.

If however your tariff was always due to end on a specific date, and the switch takes an extra week or two after that end date, then you may be charged at the standard rate for that extra week or two. Which will, in the scheme of annual cost, will amount to very little and is not worth worrying over.

Just ensure you give (or record) a meter reading on the day the cheap tariff ends. That will ensure they do not try to estimate anything for that final charging period at the standard rate.

If you have already given a final meter reading, they may not charge you anything at the standard rate anyway. They should just process the switch with that final meter reading on the tariff you were on at the time.

Just ensure you check the final bill and ensure you are happy with how they finalised everything.
