Stopping Smoking - Need Advice Please.

    I got a little notebook and each day I didn't smoke I added a line with the amount of money I had saved.

    After a week £21

    After a month £44

    And so on, I then bought myself a treat.

    What do ciggies cost these days, £8 per pack?

    So one week £56 saved

    One month £200+ saved

    Just do it

    Willpower.
    Phoning quitline (if they still exist) to talk me out of it when the urge was getting too much.
    Reminding myself of the silly money I was spending on something that was giving me repeated chest infections.

    However one of the main things was identifying my particular triggers and routines, when reaching for a ciggie was automatic, and making a conscious effort to do something else at those times.
    The physical cravings pass fairly quickly. The psychological ones, and the habits are harder to deal with. So be aware of what they are and when they are most likely to strike, before you start.
    Boredom or procrastination was a biggie for me - I don't want to do xyz right now, so I'll nip out for a fag and put it off for another 10 minutes.
    All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

    Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    I told everyone I knew I was stopping then was too embarrassed not to stop. It worked for me. My father in law went to a hypnotist and stopped after smoking up to 60 a day for many years.

    I used nicotine patches, followed the instructions to the letter, half way through the 2nd stage I found one day I had forgotten to put my patch on. Found i didnt feel any worse with no patch than I did with one on so i would see houw I go.

    Took each day at a time, never used another patch, nictone addiction licked, The actual habit was a different matter. I had smoked for over 50 years so it was difficult. It is really a case of distraction and keeping your mind busy with other things.
    You cannot think of two things at once so that worked for me. I still actually miss having a ciggie but I know I wouldnt stop at one....

    Money had nothing to do with it, we were buying cheap from abroad. I had a heart attack and the surgeon said I had a choice, smoke or live, simple as that.

    Good luck, you will never regret stopping smoking, but you have to be determined that it wont dominate you and that your the boss of this addiction, not the nicotine.

    This is my problem - I can go all day at work NOT thinking about having a cig and then really enjoy having one on a break but now I'm at home all day with no rules I'm smoking 4/5 times as much :eek::eek:

    I have one nearly every hour instead of every 3 hours and it's nowhere near as satisfying! Plus - all that wasted time:eek::eek:

    I ordered a vype which is sat on the side fully charged waiting for me today! I'm trying not to use it until I need it! I've been up since 5.00am and not had a toot or a ciggy yet but I think it's going to be a long day:(
