What are people replacing WLM with?

It's not really the email accounts that are the problem. There are ways around that. It's the fact that Microsoft have crippled the connection to the Hotmail calendar.I hope you find one that suits but I would suggest that you try the paid for ones as well as the free ones, they all offer a trial, and if you find one you like buying it may well save you years of frustration that using a not so good but free one might bring.
Thanks, for this. The dilemma I'm having really is that I do have Outlooks installed on both my machines. It seems crazy to pay for something else.
At the same time given what they've done to WLM I'm not overly inclined to replace it with paid software from them. Because at some point in the future I'll be required to pay for Outlook (at £60+ a year)0 -
If you don't need the group mail and extended MS Outlook functionality then the standard Windows Mail app should do what you need, Other than that you can use Thunderbird if you don't want to pay for Outlook.
Else try EM Client. Personally I like to just reroute all my emails to Gmail and use the Gmail app instead.0 -
Just thought that I'd update and say I've been converted on my opinions of Thunderbird. I spent sometime playing around with it to make it look a bit more like WLM and have been happily using it for some time now.
It's not quite as pretty and there are a few little things which I miss slightly but it's serving me well and I'm very pleased that I persevered with it.0 -
I use WLM on my PC as the main archive for all my emails going back years. It is very portable in that I can simply copy the Windows Live Mail hidden folder onto a 16GB USB and immediately I link it to a fresh install of WLM on any machine e.g. as I had to do after Windows 10 Anniversary Update removed WLM, I can within moments carry on from where I left off - with total confidence.0

I use eM Client one computer and Thunderbird on another.0
