Help with Laminate Floor

My OH is currently fitting a laminate floor in our lounge, he's fitted one before so its going OK the only thing is that we have a curved hearth, can anyone help with how to fit the floor round it?
The plan was to jigsaw the curve out of a piece of laminate however we are struggling to reproduce the curve accurately, had a go using a piece of paper as a template and it didn't really work, does anyone have any clever ideas?

I sell laminate all day long as im in the buisness, it takes a skilled proffesional alot of time and effort to do what you doing , the only way to achieve what your tring to do is what youve already done. Its tricky but i would just template it. Problem you will have a fitter will not want to come out and finish it off for you as 1.- the laminate might not be the best quality to fit and 2.- is it worth his time ????
Good luck0 -
is it not possible to remove the whole of the hearth and then lay the laminate underneath. the replace the hearth back on top of the laminate.
hope that makes sense!!0 -

That would make sense wouldn't it? But it's a gas fire fitted by a corgi reg fitter a couple of months ago and i think it would invalidate any guarantee/safety cert.
But it may come to that yet!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
well if the hearth is a seperate unit to the actual fire surely it wouldnt hurt to remove the hearth?although check before doing this as i know nothing about fires and things like that!!
i just thought that as long as you dont fiddle about with gas fittings and stuff then you should be ok?!!
let us know how you get on.0 -
Yes you're right I just thought that if something went wrong with the fire at a later date they could say the guarantee was invalid because of that anyway, i don't know we might get to that.
OH has come up with another idea anyway he has some thin metal banding which he uses in his job which forms around where you lay it and he thinks he can use that to form around the curve and then use that to make the template, so we will see!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740
