To claim on home insurance or not??

Hello all,
The Internal lock mechanism on our garden (French Door)door is faulty and we have been told by several locksmiths that the lock cannot be replaced and that the door will have to be replaced. However, I'm not sure if it is something I could claim on my home insurance, as it costs around £1200 to replace the door. I'm with kwikfit and the policy states it covers replacement of door locks / window locks but the policy exclusion states glasses not covered. So i'm unsure and I don't want to clarify it with the insurers incase they increase the premium anyway !! Does anyone know if insurers cover the cost of door replacement(as the lock alone cannot be replaced) ? or do we have to pay for it ourselves ?
Any suggestions much appreciated. TIA.

Why is the lock broken? Are the doors old, is that why the lock can't be replaced?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Also, home insurance tends to cover breakages, etc due to incidents rather than faults.0

Yes the door is old and hence the lock can't be replaced. It is just the wear aand tear i guess. So based on chris w's reply , the chances of insurance company covering it is very slim i guess !!0

If it's definitely wear and tear then the chances of insurance covering it are not slim - they're zero.
Of course, if you happened to have an attempted break-in, by some mysterious quirk of fate, and the door was damaged, then insurance would cover it ...................;)
No, I'm not seriously suggesting that. Quite apart from the risk of being done for fraud if you were found out, would the increased premiums for the next few years really warrant it ? OK, £1200 is a not insignificant amount, but you may well discover that you'd end up paying as much, if not more, than that in the long run.0 -
I agree. Chances of it being covered are zero.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
