Halifax £100 on switching

I am sure you have seen the TV adverts where Halifax are offering £100 to switch your bank account.

I am currently with Halifax and do not find their staff very approachable in the bank.

On their website it says "Already have a current account with us?"

Is it possible for me to get this bouns somehow?

I do not bank with anyone else so will not be transferring any direct debits.

To get the £100 you need to switch in from another bank account.

If you don't bank anywhere else you wont qualify, but if you had an account elsewhere and you wanted to switch it to the halifax, and you haven't switched an account since 2012, then you would qualify.

The account you already hold has to be a full current account and not a basic one, so may need to upgrade this first if you do.

With a little bit of effort and work on your part you could be £100 better off.

You can get the £100 bonus as an existing customer providing you have not had a switching bonus from the Halifax since 2012. But it's a switching bonus so obviously you would need to set up a current account elsewhere (not Bank of Scotland) and use the Halifax 'Current Account Switch Service' to qualify.

Thank-you both for clearing that up.

I have never switched before and have been with the Halifax for about 30 years.

On another note I had an online saver account with them ( I open a new one each year because the % rate drops after 12 months). It used to be over 2%, this year it was 0.8%, it matured this week and drops to 0.25% so I transferred it to an everyday saver which pays 0.5% but received a letter today telling me that the interest will be going down to 0.25% in December, can't win.

So open a current account elsewhere (NatWest or RBS are quick), wait for the debit card to arrive, dump £50 in there, and ask Halifax to switch it. You'll have your £100 in under a month! Reference your OP, you don't even need any DDs set up on it!

its a long time since I opened a Halifax current account so...

my dear old mum has applied for a reward current account online. do Halifax not give an instant indication of acceptance/decline for anyone or is this a bad sign?

we got a "we'll keep you updated by text" notice once completed yesterday. no email or text since.

    thanks.

    Interesting thanks for the reply.

If I open a current account elsewhere and ask Halifax to switch it.
I assume Halifax will open a standard current account because I currently have a reward current account with them.
Will they think this is dishonest behaviour as it will be clear I only did it for the £100?
I do not want to get blacklisted.

No need for a new account you can switch into the existing one you have, and no its not dishonest if you follow the T&C's and I regularly suggest 'if you had a account elsewhere we could give you £100, maybe worth a think over coffee and where you would need to bank to get the incentive.. and there is no such thing as blacklisting, just information on your credit file will hold you back..

You already have a halifax account, you are 1/2 way there.

I've just opened a new Halifax a/c but couldn't have the £100 bonus. You only get it if you deposit a set figure every month.

I think you're confusing the £100 switching incentive with the ongoing £5 per month Reward payment. But just in case you're not, please could you point out the relevant clause in the £100 switching incentive T&Cs that states this.

    Yes, i think you're right.
I'm only going to be making the odd cheque that i may receive. So can't have any sort of bonus.

Get a £5 reward, when in each month you pay in £750 or more, pay out two different direct debits and stay in credi
