PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Tip for moving to a new locality, estate or development

If you are thinking of moving, in the process of moving or have moved already to a new estate, development, locality or even town and are signed up to Facebook, it is worth checking to see if there is a community group page specifically for your new location. We have discovered one for our locality and it is very active and an interesting browse. The local parish representatives are also members of the group, although the group was set up by an ordinary resident.
Residents often use it to get recommendations from other residents for local services and trades, civic, schooling & policing matters, pressing concerns & just general neighbourly support. I've seen posts from prospective movers who want to know more about the area from those that actually live there. There are robust posting guidelines that help to lightly regulate content, such as business ads limited to 1 per week, per business and obscuring of car registration plates if posting photos or videos of bad or offending driving (there is plenty of that at a particular road junction).
Always worth a search on Facebook, if only just for the amusing comments.
