CPP Parking charge notice cancelled?

Hi,

This is a very stupid question I know, but I would like to be absolutely sure...

I was issued a parking charge notice by CPP in a university car park (where I actually hold a permit). Long story short, I used the letter template from the site to appeal it AND contacted the university security services asking that theyg cancel it, and they refused and said an appeal would not be upheld.

However - I've just checked my ticket on the CPP website and on the details page it says (to give you the last few lines):

Colour: Black
Status: Cancelled
Issue Reason(s) • No Permit
Outstanding Balance: £40.00

So erm... does this mean it's actually been cancelled? And if so, why does it still have an outstanding balance?

Thanks!
Jenny

Looks like it, Jenny, unless (rare!) they are planning on re-issuing it with another PCN number (e.g. we've seen PPCs do that when they've got the VRN wrong at first). They are not allowed to re-issue PCNs and cannot hold a keeper liable if they do because the documents would not pass the mandatory requirements of the POFA...but that's never stopped this industry! As I say, that's rare though.

I think wait the 35 days allowed for them to reply to your appeal and if you hear nothing, then complain to the BPA, as you are entitled to a reply.
AND contacted the university security services asking that they cancel it, and they refused and said an appeal would not be upheld.
Nasty Security...they probably issued the PCN! Which Uni?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hooray! The evidence has disappeared too, and the VRN was correct, so I'm thinking they've accepted my appeal.

I won't name and shame the university... but yes they did issue the PCN (or CPP did on their behalf), and yes, security were quite mean.

Will keep an eye on it for something in writing though, thanks for the tip!

Did you take a screenshot showing the word "cancelled?" Always bag evidence when you see it in case it gets changed later.

  • It looks like they have seen the error and will re-enter it ""correctly"" at some stage, probably just when you have forgotten it and can up the charge.
(I trust no PPC) They may have even seen the first post seeing as they look on sites.

Looking at your post #1, you say that you have a permit to park, but their website states reason for issuing was 'no permit'. Had it expired or was it not displayed ?

As mentioned in #4, grab any evidence with both hands before it disappears, it's of no use once its gone.
  • I got a letter from CPP confirming they've cancelled the ticket :j It was dated 23rd Sept, which was the same day I submitted my appeal online (the website worked the day after my first post when I got the error).

This means that CPP were more understanding than the university security (who didn't respond until a few days after), which is pretty surprising!
