Defaults and CCJ 4 years old. Mortgage help.

Hi, I have been trawling the internet but can't seem to find any answers, maybe you guys can help?

I have 2 defaults (low amounts) on my credit file which are 4 years and 4.5 years old. One CCJ also low amount, 4 years old.

I have had no adverse credit since then, but barely any good credit either as just haven't had anything. Have a current account and mobile phone contract but that's it.

I really want to get a mortgage as paying a fortune to rent. I have up to 25% deposit but my credit score is in the very low / very poor category.

Do I have a chance or should I try to rebuild my credit history over time? If so how?

  • Get a credit card, use and clear in full each month. Try one of the sub prime cards.

Engage a broker re the mortgage. 25% may open up some doors.

Dont bother with the score, its only you who can see it. Be patient and follow the advice posted.
  • Thanks - I applied for a capital one card and got it. I can be patient - but how long will it take to repair - years or months?

Are the CCJs and defaults settled? If not it might be sensible to wait until; they drop off at 6 years.

Line up everything else, electoral roll, stay within limits, pay in full every month, as big a deposit as you can, don't use an overdraft and talk to a broker.
