I wonder how many people have actually tried this :rotfl:

I was much impressed by the lack of protection for the surfaces of the iPhone when inserted into the vice, and the chance of actually drilling at the right point and entirely vertically.
But the thing which really gave it away as a hoax was the fake American accent!0 -
Somehow, I just can't believe that anyone would be this gullible. I presume it's just an advert that Apple have paid for to get media coverage.0

Really? Do the adverts on YouTube (that most people block) pay him enough to destroy phones for profit?
I assumed that the branded products in popular YouTube videos would have been paid for by the brand itself as a form of advertising...?0 -

Although seemingly Sophos is taking it seriously enough to warn people it's a hoax.
Surely the comments from people who claim to have done it are fakes though? Aren't they....? :eek:0 -

I would say only a small percentage of people actually block adverts, most people wouldn't even know how to do it.
But you also need to consider that he has over 10 million views!. Which from what i read online he has probably made a good few thousand dollars from that category of video.0 -

Generally not, high profile iPhone destruction videos often attract a large number of viewings (well into the tens of millions) which will fund the destruction. Aside from it's not the sort of thing Apple would fund anyway, they clearly don't need to as Apple products are hugely hyped anyway.

The world is full of idiots, there's a whole generation out there who believe in all manner of things because they saw it on the internet.
You have to remember that this is a forum with a high proportion of techie minded people alongside those who are at least smart enough to ask for help.
Most of my friends are non techie users, none of them block adverts, they buy a device, plug it in or charge it up and use it.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Did you really mean to ask that question??0 -
Wouldn't be the first time people have fallen for ridiculous iPhone hoaxes. A fake ad claiming that upgrading to iOS 7 made your iPhone waterproof caused a lot of users to brick their phones. There was also a similar ad that claimed you could fast-charge your iPhone by putting it in a microwave.0
