Lloyds Bank current a/c and overdraft not showing on credit report

I've recently looked at my credit file when turned down for a credit card. I didn't expect my credit to be GREAT, but thought it would be better than it was.

Turns out the main reason my credit isn't good is because I've not got any 'active credit' or any current account listed.

I have actually got a Lloyds Bank current account and have held it for 20 years+ and have a £500 overdraft with them which I have never gone over, and which I have always kept well maintained, dipping into occasionally- SURELY this should show as active credit?

Apparently because my account is old it wasn't initially shared with the agencies and now Lloyds are telling me that THEY CANNOT share the data on such an old account, despite the fact of being a great customer with them for so many years.

I've written to them and requested in branch and spent HOURS on the phone to them- is there ANYTHING I can do? checkmyfile.com tell me this has to be fixed by Lloyds but I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall!

I can't even threaten to leave Lloyds because while my credit isn't great and because of the problems listed above I think it's unlikely I'll get another current account with overdraft etc anywhere else.

Can anybody help me, please?

ask Lloyds to open a new account for you , with the overdraft facility , then close then first one down

  • Problem with that is (stupidly!) a) they'll base their new credit check (which they'll have to run) on Experian etc rather than their own info so I may not GET the overdraft ('computer says no!' 2) I'll lose 20 years of GOOD credit/ custom with them- what they have on their files is info pertaining to my keeping a good account with them for all these years, I just need them to share that

Read the bank account forum on here. Many people now have more than one bank account. Open another one. If you are worried about being accepted don't ask for an overdraft.

I was in the same position as you until about 3 years ago. One historic bank account which wasn't being reported. Now I have four. Switching bonuses are one reason to open more than one, as are perks such as a fiver a month.

My Lloyds current account was opened prior to 1986 and is therefore 30+ years old. It and my overdraft facility are being correctly reported to Experian.
If they can report my account surely they can report yours? What type of account is it? Perhaps the problem is with the type of account rather than the account age.
I'm sure that you must appreciate that having NO active credit accounts whatsoever is somewhat unusual. Do you really have no credit cards, no mobile phone contract, nothing?

The account only allowed the sharing of bad (defaults etc) data when opened.
If you want something to show, open a credit account with Lloyds or elsewhere.

Their Platinum low rate looks a good option is you just want a backup credit card.
