Please help me get my mum a fair home insurance?

Age UK were in the news for selling policies that were shall we say expensive.
It's not just this company that does that, by any stretch! The largest and most reputable in this segment (in my opinion) is the worst for this, I'm not naming names but they are 'the 50+' brand.
I'd avoid any specialist providers like them, if it can be helped.0 -
OK, this is all new to me -so I am trying to learn as I go along. Even the lingo 'premium', 'excess' , Some of the advice being given, I struggle to sometimes understand.
Question: I have filled in two online comparison site (as recommended by MSE) forms for home insurance quotes. Will it matter then that if I try them again and info is different?0 -
Do you think this is maybe first thing I need to do?:
As I explained, my mum has dementia so it is impossible to discuss this with her (she would have already had the home insurgence police with the Prudential for years)
I have no idea therefore what the details of it are. All I know from looking at my mum's last bank statement is that Prudential are on direct debit and the mount taken out was £21:44. I am assuming that is taken out every month.
So do you think I should contact the Prudential and ask for full details of what our home insurance is covering, and the actual annual amount (MSE expert doesn't recommend direct debit because of interest, right??0 -

Yes I know there's others who do it. I just mentioned Age UK as that's the 1 the OP mentioned.0 -
OP yes ring them up ask what the policy covers or see if they could send you a copy of what's covered.
Do you have POA to be acting on your mum's behalf ?
POA is power of attorney, it means you can act on behalf of your mum in various instances.
If there is nothing you dont understand is there a neighbour or a friend who could help you ?
Paying the insurance yearly can be cheaper than per month, depends of you or your mum can afford the yearly cost.
Being nosey here but why don't you understand the lingo, is it because your from another country or too young to know about insurance ?
If your not sure about anything you can ask on here as we don't bite, maybe you might be better off with someone explaining it to you face to face eg a neighbour/friend.0 -

Sorry to repeat myself but that's why I made the suggestion in post number 11.
If you haven't got on well with the CAB info I linked to - have a look at this instead.

'Well, thank goodness, my mum is not so far gone she cannot verify to whomever that I an acting on her behalf.
No there are no people who can help, hence I am depending on support from places like here.
The reason I don't understand lingo etc? Is because it has been my mum in the past who has done all of this. I have never had to deal with it so it is all very new territory from me. How many people know how their cars run. They take them to a car specialist. Even MORE complex now because many are computerized.
So it is same for me in this world. I am not confident right now to just get a cheap quote and accept it because I am not wanting to mess things uop which is why I am trying to ask questions and hopefully get to understand the language of this, and not to fall in any pitfalls.
I find it disgusting (what I am learning) how loyal customers are totally disrespected and ripped off by these companies because they aren't onto doing this. People I HAVE asked for help claim the same thing---that they most likely are getting ripped off because they haven't the time to compare etc. I think these companies depend on such ignore-ance. I don't think it is just ne who struggles with this.0 -
I think it will be easier for people to help you if you could explain a bit more about your situation, because at the moment we are puzzled as to why you find yourself confused. So perhaps you could answer these questions:
1) How old are you?
2) How old is your mum?
3) Are you caring for your mum?
4) Are you the sole carer for your mum?
5) Are social services involved in your mum's care?
6) Do you have any sort of Power of Attorney over your mum's affairs?
7) Do you have any sibling or other close relatives to help you?
It seems like you are either very young or have been very reliant on your mum doing things. Given that in most cases dementia happens to older people, so their children have lived independent lives by that time (including doing things like arranging their own insurance), there must be something out of the ordinary in your circumstances, and understanding that will help us to help you.0 -

Earlier threads show a general confusion about several different types of insurance and an unwillingness to learn or take advice, I'm afraid.0 -
I am afriad that things are getting a bit TOO personal at the moment from some others towards me here. I feel I am being judged because I am coming here for help, as well as patronized that I MUSt be young.
it is no concern of anyone how old I am. I think your naive to imagine that older people know all about this. IF so, how come many people are staying 'loyal' to rip off companies---errrm do you think it is because they want to avoid this wheeling and dealing
WHy do some here find it so hard to understand that some ADULTS will.l struggle looking at this world of comparing quotes etc?
WHY can some people here not just give advice without being personal and condescending. If I knew about this stuff I assure you I would not be like that
Obviously it is very important I get and understand the correct info so as to get as best a quote for my mum as possible. That is what I am asking for. If you cannot treat me with respect please do not reply.
by the way, I have already right at the beginning shared very personal info that I have mental health issues, and that should be a good enough hint why I am struggling with this 'grown up wheelin and dealin stuff';)0
