Libre Office Update & Windows 10

Options
I installed Windows 10 on 25/07/16 and the Anniversary Update was installed yesterday evening - don't know how long it took as I just walked past the laptop and noticed it was updating so I just left it.

This morning I decided to check a spreadsheet in Libre Office because when Windows 10 installed in July, all the dates in my Finance spreadsheet had changed so I had to reformat them - only did the recent ones as it goes back to 2006.

Anyway I noticed there was a Libre Office Update available so I clicked to download it. Had a few problems - I had to close several processes for it to continue. Now I've got error 1303 and need to Log on as Administrator. I'm the only user set up on the laptop so I thought I was the Administrator. I never had this problem on Windows 8.1, several Libre Office updates installed successfully.

I don't know how to run as Administrator. I've googled and searched in that bl00dy "Ask me anything" box (Cortana?). Typed "cmd", clicked "run as administrator", ticked the Create this task with administrative privileges. box. clicked OK, clicked "Yes"for User Account Control requirements.

I've now got a little black box with a couple of lines and C:\WINDOWS\system32_ which I presume is the following (from the pcsupport.about.com which I've been reading:

"An elevated Command Prompt window will now appear, allowing unrestricted access to executing commands."

I don't know what to do now. Can anyone help please?

Also, probably a daft question, when you download/install a new version of Libre Office, can you uninstall/delete the previous versions?

  • Select where the downloaded update to LibreOffice is (such as downloads), highlight it then right click and you will see the dialogue box appear. Click run as administrator on that dialogue box:

  • Thank you so much for your reply.

Unfortunately it's not yet in Downloads, it hasn't got that far.

I've got the Libre Office Installation Wizard Box, Copying New Files and the green bar is about 25% across. Then an error box appeared above that saying:

Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86) Libre Office 5\Program. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.
  • If you are still having problems with the update then I'd suggest stopping it and download the latest from here then run:

This is if your are running 64bit windows

This is if your are running 32bit windows

    http://donate.libreoffice.org/home/dl/win-x86/5.2.1/en-GB/LibreOffice_5.2.1_Win_x86.msi

If unsure, run the 32bit version

If you have another permissions issue (needing to run as admin) with the installer, then run it as administrator as shown in my previous post.

  • Thank you again.

I cancelled the installation and clicked on your link which took me to where I had downloaded the first attempt from so I cancelled the second download, however, a box opened to save the short cut to the desktop so I clicked Ok. Then I right clicked to open it from the short cut and clicked on install and it has now been successful.

Haven't a clue how "it" did it.

    Thank you.

Going back to a question in my first post, is it safe to delete previous versions or do you have to keep them all. I've got 7 now in Downloads going back to mid 2014 when I first installed it. Actually, just checked and this new version isn't showing in the Downloads.

I've just clicked on the Short cut and it's gone straight to the Installation Wizard with options of Modify, Repair or Remove.

Guess I have to try Repair.

Well, that isn't responding and Windows was looking for a solution (whatever you call it) and shut it down.

I've right clicked on the short cut and clicked on Repair and Windows in now configuring Libre Office
  • I've got to restart now.
  • It seems to be working now although I've got 3 shortcuts on the desktop - 2 are a computer monitor, tower & disk and 3rd one is the blank document one. I think I can put the first 2 in the recycle bin - tried opening Libra Office from one of them and it went to install again so I cancelled that.

Libre Office opened from the 3rd short cut.

    Thank you for your help.

Hmmm, I wonder if you have more than one install or you have an old version. IIRC there was a permissions issue with trying to update around V3-4 which required uninstalling first, a bug I ran into myself.

Go to the search bar next to the windows symbol on the bottom left hand corner and type "programs" and click on "programs and features" it will have control panel written underneath it, click this icon.

Look at your installed programs list and remove any installs of Libre Office and Libre Office help installs, right click on the name and this will bring up the uninstall dialogue box. Let all the uninstallations complete then run the installer as indicated in previous post.

    Edit:

Forget the above as I've just re-read your last post as it looks like you just have unused old icons hanging around your desktop but I'll leave the instructions there should someone read this thread and find it penitent to their situation.

  • Sorry for taking so long to reply - had to go out.

The 3 icons only appeared today, only had one with first installation and subsequent updates. You have answered my other question though which was can I uninstall previous updates/installations so I will do that now.

    Thank you again.

ps. don't think I like W10 but that is because I don't know what I'm doing. There seems to be so much STUFF on there now. I had installed Classic Shell when it was W8.1 but I lost it when I installed W10 in July. Was going to resist installing it again because I hate being a dinosaur but I think it's going back on.
  • Sorry, me again. Just gone into "Uninstall a program" and there's only the last version there. The others I was prattling on about are in Downloads. Should I delete the old downloads?
