There seems to be quite a lot of speculation hitting social media and some of the papers about Monarch Airlines.

A large number of repatriation flights are apparently being scheduled over coming days which seem to mirror ZB schedules.

United, Air Transat, Omni, Thomson, Atlas Air, Miami Air are being reported as positioning aircraft and crews to LPA, ACE, TFS, FAO, VCE, AGP, PMI.

Monarch's Twitter and Facebook staff have been issuing updates denying anything is afoot. Their website seems to still be operating and taking bookings.

I hope all is OK. Monarch are a nice little airline.

Problem is: rumours such as these can become a self-fufilling prophecy if people stop booking with them.

I'm not paranoid enough to suggest that one or more of their competitors may be behind this. Neither am I Pollyanna enough to discount that possibility.

It is not surprising that with all of the claims going in to the airlines for delayed flight going back years that some one in the industry would suffer which in turn will be also the passengers/customers who may be left without a holiday/flight if they do go pop!

    Exactly.

How much business did they lose yesterday as the rumours started to circulate?
And how many people are thinking 'there's no smoke without fire' and are booking holidays with Thomas Cook or Thomson and booking flights with Easyet or Ryanair today?

Nowt to do with that. It has just been badly managed and has now been turned around, it's up for sale and my guess is there's a bit of a pact amongst others not to buy it so they can pick over the assets and avoid TUPEing employees.

Not sure I agree with the 2nd one being closed but the first one was totally incorrect.

Pure speculation and rumour reported as fact.

Their decisions seem a bit poor, they claim they have been hit by people not wanting to go to Turkey or Egypt so much - yet pulled flying to safer places like Corfu, places that have gained demand from the other 2.

They cancelling my flights to Corfu (after they were all booked) forced me to rebook with Jet2 and although we liked Monarch, Jet2 had efficient check-in, better plane, more comfortable seats, more legroom...

I hope it is just rumours, I use Monarch a lot and am very happy with them, in fact we are flying this weekend.

I hope its isn't true. I want to get home.

We've had these (unsubstantiated) rumours before. Where did this one start? Ireland?
