Sky TV and CC CPA

Something unusual has happened and I was wondering if anybody else has encountered this and if it is normal.
Our Sky TV is paid by direct debit to a MasterCard, presumably a CPA.
The card expires next month and a couple of days ago the replacement card was received.
Today I logged on to Sky TV with the intention of updating the card details to advise the new expiry date of the card only to find that the details have already been updated and the new 2019 expiry date is showing.
How can this be? I have not done this and no member of my household did it or had the opportunity to do it. How could Sky have obtained this information and done it themselves?

If they have a CPA then they can actually obtain it through the merchant system they use.0
