Switch Service - Will this particular direct debit move over?

So if I have an upcoming direct debit due to come onto my account but hasn't yet, and then I switch the account over, will it move over to my new account?

I know this sounds confusing, but I pre-ordered an iPhone 7 Plus a few weeks ago from the Carphone Warehouse, £40 a month on O2. Although I was told that there is a delay with the phone and I'm expected to get it October 7th.
I gave my Halifax details as I keep my direct debits there, but with me not having the phone yet, the direct debit hasn't started on my Halifax account until I get the phone or it's shipped at least.

Although in the waiting progress, I've decided that I'm unhappy with Halifax, and I'm moving over to Barclays. I know the switch service will move my current direct debits over, but will the O2 one transfer over eventually too?

If it is showing in the Halifax account, it should move. If it's not showing, it won't be moved. Going by reports on this forum, if the DD request happens for the first time during the 7 days of a switch, it might fall through the cracks.

The only way to confirm that all your DDs and SOs have been moved is to check after the switch has been completed. Should just take a minute or so to check.

Quite frankly you are more dependent on the payee in claiming the direct debit. I'm still arguing with TalkTalk which failed to action a direct debit following my switch, my bill was paid a day late and they charged me £10 administration fee on the following bill. I have documentary evidence that my switch was completed before the direct debit was due but the info on the bill shows my old account. My point is that if they had debited my old account it would have been automatically paid from my new account.

So while banks may well have everything completed within 7 days some payees are completely ignorant about switching and actually don't know their elbow from their rear end.
  • Yeah M&S Bank had a DD due to debit on the day of my switch. They cancelled the DD and reapplied 7 days later then changed me for a failed DD. Got it sorted easily enough buy don't assume everything will go 100%.
