Am I really wasting my time?

I've been comping for a good few years now, ever since I had glandular fever and was stuck in bed bored. Unfortunately for me I haven't been very consistent with it so I haven't won very much.
I enjoy it, and it's always quite fun when there is a photo comp and I have to get outside and make a bit of a fool of myself to (hopefully) win. (I've never won from a photo effort comp lol)
my friends and family are constantly telling me I'm wasting my time and my time is better spent doing something else. They're of the opinion that I haven't won anything more than an Churchill umbrella so I should just give up.
should I give up? Yes, it's disheartening never winning anything when people win frequently and are lucky with big wins, but I don't do it daily, or weekly most of the time so that's my own fauly.
I don't think I'm wasting my time, but I'm sick of people putting me down because of it.

Don't tell them?
If you want to win, you need to be entering consistently - there seem to be more people entering and fewer high value prizes from a few years back, so the win rate is definitely lower than it used to be.
I do it when I'm watching TV so I'd only be sat there anyway. Having said that, I've been very inconsistent this year and win nothing as well. Last year was better - only 4 prizes but one of them was £500.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
facebook and twitter comps kind of give it awayDebt Paid - £0/£7240

It doesn't matter what other people think. If you enjoy entering competitions, by all means continue. I've been comping for about 25 years and wins are certainly harder to come by than they used to be, but I still average about 1 win a month.
Good luck!Love all, trust a few. Do wrong to none.

I've comped for years and years, and this year I have seriously thought about throwing in the towel. Hardly any wins and rubbish, no effort "like and share" Facebook competitions with tiresome sob story responses seem to be taking over. It's not the same anymore.
It's such a shame! Although I'm telling myself to stick at it for now as you never know what's around the corner!0 -
If you're genuinely enjoying what you're doing then don't give up.
If you're feverishly entering loads of stuff and not sleeping as you're focussed solely on competitions/entries etc and sweating when you enter and feeling down when you don't win, then quit.
Life's not about being a winner.... if you enjoy something you can come last and it's still worthwhile.
But if the beast's got you in its control, it's time to quit.0 -
If you don't want to have to explain yourself to other people, give FB and twitter a miss and spend time entering other ones. If you enjoy it, why not.0

They won't be telling you you're wasting your time when you've won something they want!!
If you enjoy it keep at it, who cares what other people think0 -
I enter competitions all in all for about 1hr 1/2 per week, my brother was like "I'm sure if you spent that time working/building a business, you would earn more than what you win" I have won £6500 worth since January, one being an amazing prize that's a total dream come true, so what I would say is keep going as long as you enjoy it, ignore what others say and keep enjoying checking your post and emails in case of a win!
Oh and when he heard about my win, he was genuinely gobsmacked and can now see why I comp! Just do what makes you happy0 -
Treat it as a pure hobby is my advice.
Enter a comp & then forget. Do not keep count. I won a holiday to NY in 2008 & was entering very few comps back then.0 -
Do what makes you happy. I've only won small prizes myself, but i enjoy comping0
